A few days before the New Year a crew came out to build out a spot where I will be putting a 10x12 green house and 12x20 shed. The area has a slight incline, causing the spots to be around 16" off level. Instead of putting my buildings under stacks of blocks I got the area regraded and laid with gravel. Now when they bring my buildings on a truck they can just lay it on level ground without issue. I am also prepping a spot to put some solar panels, with an upcoming project to wire all the buildings on this to switch to solar when needed.
Leveling the area they used a laser level, and a skid steer to make the area flat and then they use ground contact timbers along with gravel to fill in the area completely flat.
They brought a dump truck, and went to a local quarry to pick up a bunch of stone. About an hour later they returned with a truck full of rock.
During the same day I had a mower come out to clear an area where I plan on installing a bunch of solar panels. It faces south and gets a lot of sun light. But the area was grown over by old hay. So I got a mower out to get it all cleared for me.
Looking forward to having my own tractor and mower, but I really need a place to store it. Though my first two buildings will not be large enough to store farm equipment. But I am hoping by early this year I will have plans laid out to get a much larger garage built where I can keep all kinds of farm stuff.
He cleared a path down to where a very large tree fell, I have to drive my truck down there and do not want my exhaust pipe setting off the brush working down there. So he cleared a path for me to where I can get my truck down without much issue.
After a few passes he made enough space for me to park my truck and load up a bunch of logs without being in waist high brush. I think it will make doing the clearing more easier.
The downed tree can be seen directly ahead. Hoping we can get lots of good firewood from this tree.
I walked between the two areas these guys where working. A good five acres between each other.. hah so I did many steps that day. As we returned to the foundation work they were using the skid loader to scoop out gravel.
One building is a little bigger than the other. I had the shed set back around twenty feet, so I can back a truck up to it easily. With another load of stuff coming from my old house over here it will be nice to have a shed to put it in when need be.
Was a lot of fun watching them scoop out dirt. I could tell they have done that a lot. I asked them about their skid loader and told them I was in the market for one. They gave me some good advise on finding my own.
It looks a little rough now due to all the dirt being torn up, but the grass will grow back and I could plant little flowers around the edge to help with the look of it. Do not want anything too tall so it would block out light by the green house. But theres many options for some 2 foot or so plants that would do great there.
Hopefully the ground will dry up some before the truck with the buildings arrive. Otherwise it may get more messy before its all done.
May need to lay down some boards or something where unloading the truck so I do not make a bigger mess until I can get the area grown back good.
The old shed is right next to where the new ones are. Though all we can see is what is left, not sure when it was torn down.. Before my time here.
Now with the field cleared, I have ordered a bunch of solar panels. Need to get to thinking about how to mount them.
I blocked off around thirty feet as that is what I think I will need for the space for all my panels. Fits good there now and should be easy to work over there with all the grass cleared. Next up is to get the panels, cabling and such. And then have and his friend come out to install it all. Looking forward to seeing him again and working with them on this big solar project. So this is just the start, clearing the spot where it will all go.
