It has been a little over a month since my last update on these sativa dominant cannabis plants. We are now flowering, the yellow color of the light along with the change in rest cycles for the plants makes them produce buds. They have been transforming for the last two weeks, I put them in the flowering tent once they healed up from their second topping. Now they are forming buds, and will soon fatten up and start forming sugar leaves as well.
The flowering tent has a more powerful light, going from a 600W to a 1000W. So when they stretch they grow over a foot in a few weeks. Adding C02 to their environment also helps them grow fast. With all this extra growth two netting are hung in the tent to help the plant grow through and add support.
Buds are starting to form, they should just get more fat from here. Loving the dense screen of cannabis plants. Using the netting along with topping them has really given them a bushy appearance.
During all this growth their water intake has increased, giving them water almost daily sometimes. Recently I bought a moisture meter, it really helps me notice when the plants are drying out early on. So more water has been introduced. Hopefully they will get much bigger.
I trained each branch into its own cell in the netting. So they will all have space between each other.
The netting I used is called the SCROG technique. The branches are trained through the first net early on, around the first week. And by the second week they are popping out of the second netting above.
My sugar and yeast bucket making carbon dioxide for my plants to consume. The mushroom buckets had to be put outside as they started having fruit flies spawn in them. So I will need to work out a containment area to keep the fruit flies away and the spores at the same time. But my true and honest yeast bucket works.. Just warm water, sugar and yeast.
Since I am growing all the same strains they are mostly the same height. One of the four plants was started a week later when one of the plants failed to germinate. So one of them is a week younger than the rest.
My fan blows on the canopy to help it stay cool. A temperature probe is also in the tent so I can measure the canopy temperatures. When it gets above 85F I move the light up a little, or turn up the fans in the tent. If it got above 100F it starts to cook off the oils in the buds. So its important to keep the temps in the low 80s where the plant is happy during flowering.
So many buds forming, its early on but we can see where each stem should have a cola on it. Since these are double topped there are well 20-30 in this netting. Normally you only get one main cola per plant, but with the topping of the plant I should get many more.
These plants need around another two months to form their flowers, I think they will be quite impressive looking in a month or so.
Seeing the whole canopy get filled is really cool. I trained the stems early on toward the middle so there's no bare areas.
I will be extra thankful about this netting when the buds fatten up and start wanting to fall over due to their size and weight. I wonder how much taller they will get, this strain is sativa dominant so it could be quite the tall plant.
Having a lot of fun growing legendary strains like this Sour Diesel, and previously growing Blue Dream. Soon it will be time to start some new seeds, always nice changing it up with the strains being grown.
Now I will close up the grow tent and let them rest, the smell they give off when the lights turn out is quite powerful. A sign these plants are getting quite a lot of light and nutrients. These plants are alive and strong, and should make for some good cannabis buds.
