Hi, friends!
It seems that youngster Kalle Rovanpera is much better driver then his father Hari was in the old days of rallying when competition was much tougher, I would say.
He score his 2nd win in a few rallies and this time it was in Greece and in style. He was just in the class of his own whole weekend and no one couldn't take the lead from him from the word start.
OK, Seb Ogier is playing a safe game with collecting enough points for the 8th championship crown but he is also opening the road from rally to rally as a championship leader. And you know what they say about opening the road on a gravel rallies - you are cleaning the road for the others.
Ogier took 3rd place on this super rough rally and that way he even extended his lead up to 44 points. This way it will be very hard for the chasers like Elfyn Evans, Thierry Neuville or Kalle Rovanpera to catch him.
I would say that this 2021 World Rally Championship crown is already in his pocket but in rallying you never know. One DNF (did not finish) and you are gone. Just take that maximum number of points is 30 per rally, when we know that there are three rallies left in this year's championship, then the math is clear - he must collect 46 points from three rallies and the crown should be his.
But let's get back to young Kalle Rovanpera. I just hope that there won't be any new domination in the sport because any domination kills the sport. It seems that this guy is extremely talented but there is also one more thing - he starts the rallies down the order and on gravel rallies that should be an advantage if you are talented. And he is.
Season 2019 WRC champion Ott Tanak did his best in his Hyundai i20 WRC but couldn't do more against Toyota Yaris WRC of Rovanpera jr. I think that Toyota has a better car at the moment and Hyundai breaks down a lot this season.
What about M-Sport Ford?!
They can't match the times of Toyota or Hyundai. They had a bad season and they are kinda commercial team - who brings the money, drive. I can't see professional enough at the top of the sport but some team owners does that and that's bad for the sport. At the top of the sport it should be that biggest talent has the works seat. That's the reason they can't finish the rally better then the occasional 4th place but more usually 5th o 6th place. That was the case this weekend with Gus Greensmith in 5th place and Adrien Fourmaux in 6th place.
Dano Sordo took the points for Hyundai with 4th place and that's probably what team bosses wanted from him as a 3rd driver in the team.
Andreas Mikkelsen took the win in WRC2 category in front of his team mate Marco Bulacia in the same car - Škoda Fabia Rally2.
