¡Hola a todos los amantes de la costura! Hace poco estuve inmersa en un proyecto de elaboración de un traje para un evento sobre animación japonesa y como tenía un tiempo sin coser, fue para mí un reto poder fabricar las piezas que necesitaba. El personaje utiliza un traje de bufón, pero como el evento estaba ambientada en las maids (sirvientas), hice mi propia versión del traje de sirvienta, añadiéndole el estilo del personaje. En anteriores publicaciones, mencioné como realicé el gorro y la cola de diablillo, ésta vez, les explicaré como realicé el cuello (gorguera o cuello de cervantes), el cual, fue todo un reto, dado que no estaba segura de cómo podía realizarlo.
Hello to all sewing lovers! I was recently immersed in a project to make a costume for a Japanese animation event and since I hadn't sewn for a while, it was a challenge for me to be able to make the pieces I needed. The character wears a jester outfit, but since the event was set around maids, I made my own version of the maid outfit, adding the character's style to it. In previous posts, I mentioned how I made the devil hat and tail, this time, I will explain how I made the neck (ruff or cervantes neck), which was quite a challenge, since I wasn't sure how I could do it.
La razón por la cual, tuve bastantes dudas a la hora de pasar a la fabricación de la pieza, aparte de que nunca había hecho una cosa así, estaba el diseño original del personaje, donde, no podía apreciar del todo cómo era ese cuello. Mi duda también radicaba en el cuello que le habían realizado a una amiga para su traje del mismo personaje, la costurera lo había cosido como una circunferencia con tela para tul, ruchada, con un par de adornos con un bordador 3D... no está nada mal si aprecias el dibujo del personaje:
The reason why I had a lot of doubts when it came to making the piece, apart from the fact that I had never done anything like this, was the original design of the character, where I couldn't fully appreciate what that neck was like. My doubts also lay in the collar that had been made for a friend for her suit of the same character, the seamstress had sewn it as a circumference with tulle fabric, ruched, with a couple of ornaments with a 3D embroiderer... it is not not bad if you appreciate the drawing of the character:
Y realmente el de mi amiga no se ve mal... pero no me convencía del todo, ya que conocía las gorgueras y sabía que eran más elaboradas y pomposas. Así que, luego de buscar un poco por internet, logré conseguir una manera de realizar el cuello cómo quería y cómo pensaba, sería realmente el que llevaria el personaje si lo llevamos a un modo realista. Para ello, utilicé tela que tenía guardada en casa desde hacía años. Una rígida que aquí se conoce como "dracrón" y la otra... no sé ja ja pero es una tela semitransparente, de un color verde tornasolado que realmente me encanta y para los detalles, un tipo de tela parecido, semitransparente pero de color morado.
And my friend's really doesn't look bad... but I wasn't completely convinced, since I knew ruffs and I knew they were more elaborate and pompous. So, after searching the internet a bit, I managed to find a way to make the neck how I wanted and how I thought, it would really be the one that the character would wear if we take it to a realistic mode. For this, I used fabric that I had stored at home for years. A rigid one that is known here as "dracron" and the other... I don't know ha ha but it is a semi-transparent fabric, in an iridescent green color that I really love and for the details, a similar type of fabric, semi-transparent but with a purple.
Primero, corté una franja de la tela rígida con el ancho de mi cuello y el largo de mi cuello más unos centímetros de sobra para colocarle el cierre mágico o cinta velcro. Cosí en los bordes de ése rectángulo para que la tela no se deshilachara y ya tenía la pieza base lista.
First, I cut a strip of the stiff fabric with the width of my neck and the length of my neck plus a few centimeters left over to place the magic closure or Velcro tape. I sewed on the edges of that rectangle so the fabric wouldn't fray and I already had the base piece ready.
Para poderme colocar con facilidad el cuello, cosí un retazo de cierre mágico o cinta velcro. Pienso mucho en poder ponerme las piezas de mis trajes sin ayuda, ya que a veces me encuentro sola y no contaría con una mano ayuda para calzar ganchos o hacer nudos a donde no alcanzo. Para esos casos, el cierre mágico es un gran aliado jeje
In order to easily fit my neck, I sewed a piece of magic closure or Velcro tape. I think a lot about being able to put on the pieces of my suits without help, since sometimes I find myself alone and I wouldn't have a helping hand to fit hooks or tie knots where I can't reach. For those cases, the magic closure is a great ally hehe
Seguidamente, corté unas tiras largas (no las medí, pues no tenía ni la más remota idea de cuánto necesitaría) de la tela tornasolada. El grosor lo escogí bastante ancho, dado que quería ocultar gran parte de mi pecho. Para elaborar el sesgo, corte unas tiras largas de la tela color morado, más o menos de 6 cm de grosor, para elaborar los doblez sin problemas.
Next, I cut long strips (I didn't measure them, as I had no idea how many I would need) from the iridescent fabric. I chose the thickness quite wide, since I wanted to hide a large part of my chest. To make the bias, cut some long strips of the purple fabric, about 6 cm thick, to make the folds smoothly.
Lo siguiente, fue coser el sesgo. Normalmente es más fácil comprar el sesgo ya hecho, en lugar de cortarlo y plancharlo, de hecho, lo corté recto y soy consciente de que el sesgo se corta con la tela en diagonal jeje, pero como estaba contra reloj y corta de gastos, aproveché que la tela cedía bastante y la corté de ese modo. Bien, a la hora de coserlo realicé una costura recta para fijarlo y luego, doblé la tela del sesgo y volví a pasar otra costura recta. Al principio, pensé que sufriría cosiendo éste sesgo, pero para mi suerte, la tela se comportó excelente sin necedad siquiera de haberlo planchado previamente... lo sé, discúlpenme costureras expertas, sé que es no es el modo correcto de hacerlo.
The next thing was to sew the bias. Normally it is easier to buy the bias already made, instead of cutting it and ironing it, in fact, I cut it straight and I am aware that the bias is cut with the fabric diagonally hehe, but since I was against the clock and short on expenses, I took advantage that the fabric yielded quite a bit and I cut it that way. Well, at the time of sewing it I made a straight seam to fix it and then I folded the bias fabric and passed another straight seam. At first, I thought that I would suffer sewing this bias, but luckily for me, the fabric behaved excellent without even having to iron it beforehand... I know, excuse me expert seamstresses, I know that this is not the correct way to do it.
Teniendo esto, lo que sigue a continuación, era coser esas tiras largas a la pieza base del cuello... no sabía cómo hacerlo, pero, luego de analizarlo, llegué a la conclusión de que debía de ser siguiendo más o menos el siguiente patrón:
Having this, what follows next, was to sew those long strips to the base piece of the neck... I didn't know how to do it, but, after analyzing it, I came to the conclusion that it had to be following more or less the following pattern :

Admito que ésta fue la parte que me pareció más tediosa, pues para que se viese pomposa, realicé entre dos o tres dobleces antes de realizar cada costura... y cada costura estaba muy cerca de la otra, así que, me llevó tiempo. Pero una vez que logré llegar al otro extremo, sentí que todo el esfuerzo había valido la pena.
I admit that this was the part that I found the most tedious, because to make it look pompous, I made between two or three folds before making each seam... and each seam was very close to the other, so it took me time. But once I managed to get to the other end, I felt that all the effort had been worth it.

Para finalizar, me fijé que en diseño del personaje, hay unos puntos morados en su cuello. Lo que se me ocurrió, fue elaborar unos pompones, cortando unas pequeñas circunferencias, las cuales rellené con retazos de tela y cerré para lograr la forma que estaba buscando.
Finally, I noticed that in the character design, there are some purple dots on his neck. What occurred to me was to make some pompoms, cutting small circles, which I filled with scraps of fabric and closed to achieve the shape I was looking for.
Cosí estos pompones a mano en diferentes puntos del cuello y listo. Logré terminar una gorguera bastante llamativa para mi traje. Al principio creí que sufriría realizandola... pero me sorprendió que no fue así y ahora que sé cómo se realiza, podría elaborarla más adelante si es requerido, sin ningún problema.
I sewed these pom poms by hand at different points on the neck and voila. I managed to finish a pretty flashy ruff for my suit. At first I thought I would suffer doing it... but I was surprised that it wasn't and now that I know how to do it, I could do it later if required, without any problem.
