More than any other thing, the most terrible thing about my sleeping pattern is that they aren't consistent. As bad as that is, one has to make some changes to one's life to better suit one's activities. This is the second week of resumption and all school activities have already carried on which include lectures for those who aren't going to be writing exams and revision classes and tests for those who are to write exams.
Prior to the resumption, when I was at home, I had been looking for ways to maximize my productivity during my stay at home. The schools were on strike and since the beginning, I had rightly predicted it would take long for them to call of the strike. It took 8 months. During those 8 months, I stumbled upon an interesting topic that has to do with a certain type of sleep, known as polyphasic sleep. For those who have heard nothing of it, polyphasic sleep has to do with arranging one's pattern of sleep in intervals, interspacing them across several hours.
Initially, I'd do other things for 8 hours then sleep for three hours. When I wake up, I'd spend another 8 hours then have a two-hour nap and so it goes. 8 hours: 3-hour nap, 8 hours: 2-hour nap. Of course it took me time to get accustomed to it. Th first few times of me implementing it made me feel like a zombie: always sleepy, red eyes and no idea of what day of the week it is. As time goes on however, I got better at it, except for the part where I don't know what day of the week it is as one day just bleeds into another. I cared more about the hours. The purpose for which I adopted this sleepom pattern did come to fulfill itself as I learnt things during the strike holiday. I was able to cover a lot of school topics I hadn't before and I even took some time to begin learning programming.
Now, we're back in school and a lot of things just have to change, including my sleeping pattern. I had a tough time trying to figure out which one would work best for me in school as I experimented with up to three patterns within the week. It isn't easy to continue with my home sleeping pattern here where I have up to 10 hours of lectures including practicals and stuff, 2 hours of group discussions and variable hours for study.
Eventually though, I figured out a new sleeping pattern that might just be right for me. This is where I sleep from 12am to 3 am then from 12pm to 2pm. Pretty messed up right? Well, there are a lot of school stuff to be covered and tome ain't on nobody's side, so sleep management is very important to me. 5 hours of sleep a day doesn't really hinder my activities except when I don't workout in the morning.
I resorted to the use of a skipping rope instead of jogging to further save time
I also do push-ups, stretches and chin ups. All these coupled with five hour sleep a day makes sure I am fine.
This is day four of me trying this new pattern.
The eyes are still red though, mouth still dry and brain still foggy but I shall adapt better. Wish me luck.
Thanks for reading.
