Al remover los escombros del incendio para hacer acciones de refrescamiento, los bomberos encontraron el cadáver de una mujer colocado debajo de la cama, por lo cual se solicitó la intervención de la Policía.
El Detective de homicidios Joe Staculla es el primero en llegar a la escena del crimen, todo indicaba a primera vista que la víctima era una mujer de mediana estatura, desnuda y que presentaba características de violación, maltrato y apuñalamiento, cosa que fue confirmado posteriormente por los forenses. En la casa no se encontró nada de valor, por lo que se presume que pudo ser un robo que salió mal, sobre la mesa de noche resaltaba entre el desorden de humo y cenizas, solo una nota en papel blanco que decía: “Recuerda comprar las entradas para ir al teatro A.S.”

Homicide Detective Joe Staculla is the first to arrive at the scene of the crime, everything indicated at first glance that the victim was a woman of medium height, naked and that she presented characteristics of rape, abuse, and stabbing, which was later confirmed by the coroners. Nothing of value was found in the house, so it is presumed that it could have been a robbery that went wrong, on the nightstand stood out among the mess of smoke and ashes, only a note on white paper that said: "Remember to buy the tickets to go to the AS theater”

En el apartamento no se encontraron huellas, ni rastros de posibles atracadores, tampoco indicios que condujeran a la investigación en un sentido claro. Este caso se transformaba poco a poco en un misterio cada vez más difícil de resolver, según las notas del Detective Staculla asentadas en el expediente.
La olvidada investigación del asesinato de Teresita se torna perturbadora meses después. Una mañana del mes de julio de 1977 para ser más exactos, cuando el detective a cargo del caso recibe una misteriosa llamada de un médico de origen filipino, que asegura tener información crucial que podría conducir a la captura del asesino. El detective accede a encontrarse personalmente con el informante lleno de esperanzas de poder resolver al fin este caso, que por algún extraño motivo no deja descansar su mente.
El informante le contó al policía una historia increíble, el Dr. Chuan como era su nombre, aseguró que su esposa durante un sueño profundo entró en una especie de trance, o mejor dicho, que fue poseída por el espíritu de Teresita Basa, quien hablando en Tagalo el idioma autóctono de Filipinas, le pidió que se comunicara en la Policía de Chicago, específicamente con el Detective Joe Staculla, y le diera la información de que ella fue asesinada por un sujeto de nombre Alam Shower, y que la prueba del hecho, era una sortija de oro con una gran perla blanca que el asesino le había robado y que guardaba como recuerdo. No footprints were found in the apartment, no traces of possible robbers, no evidence that would lead to the investigation in a clear sense. This case was slowly becoming an increasingly difficult mystery to solve, according to Detective Staculla's notes in the file.
The forgotten investigation of Teresita's murder turns disturbing months later. One morning in July 1977 to be exact, the detective in charge of the case receives a mysterious call from a doctor of Filipino origin, who claims to have crucial information that could lead to the capture of the murderer. The detective agrees to meet personally with the informant full of hopes of finally being able to solve this case, who for some strange reason does not let his mind rest.
