Welcome to the Side Hustle Chronicles, where I'll take you on a journey through the world of side hustles. In this article, I'll share my personal experiences, successes, and lessons learned along the way. Side hustles have become a very common and popular way to explore new passions, earn extra income, and unleash our creativity most especially for students and stay at home mum. So, grab a cup of coffee and join me as I delve into the unique side hustles I've embarked on.
I've tried a few different side hustles in the past few years, and some have worked out really well for me while others didn't go as planned. Here's a little glimpse into my side hustle journey:
some years back, when I newly got admission into the polytechnic, federal polytechnic Ilaro to be precise, during my first first semester I was okay I never had any reason to em back on any side hustle cause I had enough food stuff, pocket money and I believe I was okay but later on ,on the long run it was as if everything started fading away before my eyes. my foodstuffs got finished,my pocket was empty , I felt drained ,I felt betrayed by my parents because they didn't send me money, so throughout that first semester I just had to rough it till it was over, then we went home for the break .
when we resumed for the second semester first year which was around June / July there was this my friend who works at a shawarma shop so getting to him, I spoke to him about working with them and which he promised to get back to me .
After some days,he called me that his boss wanted to see me ,I was very happy it was as if I won a lottery ticket that day, though it was in the night he came to call me and without hesitation I quickly went in to wear some clothes and cover my hair because my hair was scattered and I followed him.
On getting there I met his boss she was a female and she accepted me with so much great joy like she had been expecting me before,i was filled with so much joy and she asked me to resume the following week. I couldn't sleep that night because I was just happy I told my roomies and they were all happy for me also.
The day I was supposed to resume I went and it was a great day because I learn so much from it and also got paid. Day after Day I began to get used to it and more better and started receiving orders also.
I would make small chops, chicken and chips and burger while my colleague will make make shawarma."
It was really a great time for me. so I did that throughout my first year second semester in school and by the time we would round up the semester we had to close because there were no much student again in the campus ,they all had gone home. so I went home also. It was a great way to earn extra income while doing something I enjoyed.
On the other hand, After we resumed back in our second year I once tried my hand at selling some of my handmade crafts online. I spent hours creating unique totebags, hair bunnet and set up a business account, logo e.t.c. Unfortunately, it didn't work out as I had hoped. I struggled to attract customers and compete with established sellers in the market. I saw other people doing great with similar product , i taught it would also be the same for me but it was a bit disheartening, because it totally crashed down and moreover I didn't even find the support I needed, most people called me jack of all trade while others different name but I learned valuable lessons about market research and the importance of finding the right niche.
Overall, my experiences with side hustles have been a mix of successes and learning opportunities. It's important to try different things, be open to new experiences, and learn from both the wins and the setbacks. It's natural to feel a bit disappointed when something doesn't work out, because what works for Mr A might not work for Mr B you just need to know what works for you and what won't work but it's also a chance to grow and discover new passions.
