Happy New Year everyone
Today was Friday the third of January and the first working day of the new year.
We get January the second as a public holiday to recover from the Hogmanay/New Year celebrations.
Did you know we didn't celebrate Christmas in Scotland until 1958?
Yes, that was when Christmas Day first became a public holiday in Scotland, up until then it was always Hogmanay and New Year that we celebrated!
This morning the sun was shining and the sky was blue!
If you read my post yesterday [https://peakd.com/hive-106316/@tengolotodo/just-do-it-and-reap-the-rewards](Just Do It and Reap the Rewards) then you realise I said I would take Mrs T into town to do some charity shopping as she confided in me that she saw a coat and never bought it.
Hence my little Just Do It rant.
Although the sun was shining today, it was fluffing freezing as you can see from this bird bath!
It rarely gets cold enough to be completely white here, we don't get snow as a rule on the coast, go a couple of miles inland and they get some occasionally but rarely do we.
You can tell we are still on Scottish holidays as the schools are closed, this is our local primary school. I still love the architecture on the older buildings we have here.
Now this is the house Mrs T wants, it is on the corner of Lady Helen Street. Her mother is called Helen and Mrs T reckons if we have her mother again to stay she can have her own floor! I ain't complaining to that.
The tree stump though, can you see the demons and faces in there or is just me...
These palms I love, perhaps beacuse they never lose their leaves and give the pretence of warm weather!
You can see the frost on the grass....
You can also see the after effects of New Year celebrations!
A lady well I am presuming they belong to a lady has lost her shoes.
Actually you can see one of them was broken, so yeah rather that take them home or put them in a bin, just like an irresponsible dog walker they leave it littering the grass!
The shoes were on the hill coming down into town. She probably staggered out of The Duchess pub that is on the left hand side and had a rowdy Hogmanay dance/piss up celebration for the New Year.
Town was looking lively which is always a good thing.
Too many shops close due to online shopping and the retail parks.
Although it was cold there was no wind whatsoever as you can see from millpond state of the water.
You can see the Bass rock and there looks like a UFO next to it on the right side of the picture.
There are loads of streets that run perpendicular from the High St to the promenade such as that one.
I was asked if it had rained, but it I think it is the sun melting the frost that caused the sleek wet look to the road surface.
The May Isle in the distance is a great island to visit in the summer, I am thinking it would make for a great Worldmappin post.
This is a new shop place that sells antique and unusual Scottish items.
It is where Mrs T got my Christmas present.
The present being a wonderful book of Scottish verse.
The weather was glorious and the buildings shine in the sun so much more so than the drab grey when it is dull and overcast!
They finally installed barriers to cut out cars careering down the High St when it should be for shoppers.
Will the Coat still be there at the PDSA charity shop?
Apparantly they had changed the layout of the shop!
YOU CREASE ME UP
I had to take that picture, as it applies to some of you who engage with me!
The coat was still there and was duly bought!
His and Hers Shopping trolleys!
You know you get matching his and hers christmas jumpers ... well that was another version in shopping trolleys!
The Christmas decorations were still up...
Being a seaside town we are full of fluffing seagulls, so they will always bomb your pic!
We did do the full 8 charity shop ciruit and for all you ladies ...
YOU'RE LIKE, REALLY PRETTY
Fifty pence that cost, and yes I bought it!
Looook what is over the water..... did you see it?
Snow on the hills ❄️
The charity shops had run out and I was not in the mood to go to the Nickel & Dime shop. It does have some good stuff and is pretty big. Another day perhaps!
For us it was time to get home and get some food cooked!
I hope you had a wonderful Hogmanay or New Year if you celebrated it!
I hope you managed to get out for a few walks this week!
This is also a post to participate in my first #wednesdaywalk initiative from the wonderful
Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!
