Day 9 - Airco
I got inspired by the "30 day not-so ordinary ordinary items challenge" but as I love giving things a personal twist, I decided to change the format a bit for myself so it suits me better. I've adjusted it to the 30 pictures - 30 stories challenge. But some days you will see that I also use not-so ordinary ordinary objects.
Feel free to join the challenge at any time if you like.
Publish one picture a day during 30 days and write a story about that picture. This can be anything, any object in the home, a person, scenery or a pet. I'm going to share a diversity of pictures and challenge myself to step outside of the box.
Although it's winter over here in Spain and we aren't in need of air conditioning inside our home, the aircos are still used daily. We sure can't do without them in this home, as I have written before, on September the 1st last year when both outside units had been stolen while asleep and we were being boiled inside our home as we could not open our windows fully because of our newly adopted cat.
It was a weird experience to have these units on during the night because at night it was very needed, and then find out when waking up all overheated that there's an error on the screen to find out this was the case on both units. When we looked outside the units were stolen. A few weeks of overheated horror followed because while this home is freezing inside during the winter months (while outside 20 degrees even), the heat is on during summer months and that also included September. Gosh we fled the home every day to get a bit of oxygen, lol.
Of course this became a battle between the owner and insurance because who doesn't make sure to secure these expensive units on a public stairs where people pass tons of times daily? It took weeks before the insurance gave the go ahead and then it took a few more days before they came to hang up the new units. With the new outside units, new inside units were placed too and we were told that these are more powerful than the previous ones. I'm glad they are because I bet the old one wasn't able to heat up the living room for 1/10, lol.
We have been using the heating function daily for a little over a month now I think, and I can't wait until spring arrives fully and we don't need to use either of them for a little while. It's of course noticeable in our energy bill. But sometimes warm clothes and blankets will not be enough so I'm at least happy we have them and aren't left in the cold completely as we had in a previous apartment in Spain some years ago. I can't wait until we have our own home in the future and will probably explore the option of floor heating, so nice as the tiles are always SO cold!
Do you have an airco unit at your place? And if you do, do you also use the heating function or have separate heating for that?
