Weekend plans
My plan for Saturday was actually to first head to the supermarket and bring back some groceries that they should have exchanged on Friday evening after they messed up our order. I had to wait two days until they were supposed to exchange the meat on Friday evening, nobody showed up! So my plan was to settle this on Saturday, bring it back instead of exchanging it and then buy whatever I needed in another store because I was actually fed up by the whole situation. I had a whole week's worth of meals planned and a schedule so that nothing would go to waste, they messed this up big time and I have only been able to make two things while I still have 3 packs of expired meat in my fridge now. Sigh.
Saturday slow start
We all slept in a little on Saturday, not too long though but I think we got out around 10 and slowly woke up. Where my boyfriend had to have his weekly management meeting, I asked my daughter if she wanted to come to the supermarkets to fix the grocery issue. She got dressed, I hopped in the shower and was all dressed up to go when I checked on the status of my support ticket from the supermarket. I wasn't sure which store I needed to bring back the items to, and I didn't want to carry them to the wrong one and be sent away. There still wasn't any response while the info stated they were available on Saturdays until 10 pm. That was weird so I checked the opening hours. OOPS. Apparently the 6th of January is a holiday here, I had no clue, lol.
Weekend food
Now they also messed up my weekend food plans which highly annoyed me to be honest. But as I could not change a damn thing about it, I decided to let it slide and propose a beach walk as the weather was so wonderful. We all agreed as it was time that we got our step count up again after a week of lacking big time! Holidays seem to slow us down, which was not my intend for this year, so it was time to kick ourselves in the butt and start moving.
We planned on sitting at the one tapa bar that's open during the day even in afternoons but found out they are closed for holidays. Plan b was walk to the harbour to see if we could sit there, good for a few thousand extra steps! Let's go! My boyfriend called the restaurant we always go to to ask if they were open, then he hung up. I asked him why he didn't reserve a table as the weather is great and it's a holiday so we may end up arriving there without being able to sit otherwise. He quickly handed the phone to me and let me take care of it, lol.
Packed with people
I don't think I've seen this restaurant this busy since summer time, it was a lovely winter afternoon to be honest, t shirts and a vest on top, which was even a bit too hot while walking in the direct sun, but then a cool ocean breeze would make sure you'd cool down in between these moments that it was a bit too hot. Perfect for these long walks!
We had a good time, chatted and laughed a lot while enjoying the fact that we "actually live here" and thought back from where we came from. These are the moments that I pinch myself to realize this is real, we did this and we're upgrading. We're on the right track.
What to eat?
This is not the most healthy restaurant so when we sit here, usually the kid orders a typical Dutch snack and Saturday was no different. This time she tried their chicken croquet (normally they don't have it) while my boyfriend ordered a tomahawk.
The best thing about going there is probably the Belgian beer for my boyfriend, he always loves drinking one there. I'm just mostly happy to be able to rest as these long walks always have a big affect on my back pain and sometimes knees and hips, yep, getting old and rusty, especially in the winter, lol. Thankfully walking in the sun helps a lot!
We ordered some good old portion of "bitterballen" according to our Dutch customs and when they were about to close we slowly started walking back because the sun was already disappearing bit by bit. Without the sun the walk back is a lot less pleasant as it's very windy on the boulevard so then you get cold quite quickly.
Step goal check!
We finally reached our step goals and even went beyond that, and we ate some food while at home it would have been a disaster with the current ingredients in our fridge. Win-win. Of course the good times and some memories made are worth even more!
I love the fact that our final weekend of the holidays ends this well because it was a very slow start with the little one ill at home during her first week of holidays. We had to catch up a bit during the final days, so we did! And the weekend wasn't even over after Saturday, one more day to come!
Wishing you a great week ahead, and hopefully your weekend was great too!
