Some months ago I dedicated two posts to our former dogs Ozzy & Bo (you can read it here). Both dogs we had to let go way to early. After the passing away of Ozzy (the last one) I promised myself never to have another dog again, due to the simple fact that saying goodbye to a part of the family way to soon hurts to much... though we still have great memories to both of them.
Our kids have only known Ozzy, Ozzy was our last dog... A great and sweet labrador.
Our youngest son Sam is totally crazy about dogs. Always was and still is. He is so fond of dogs that every once in a while we 'rent' a dog from friends of us for the weekend so Sam can walk the dog and play with him.
With that in mind and with the space we are getting in our new home in April my wife and I had a good talk. For your info Sam had a rough first years of his life, he had big problems with allergies of which he couldn't eat all kind of food but the most problems he had with his left arm. Due to an accident his arm was broken and he had surgery many many times. The result is that his arm will stay weak and malformed for the rest of his life. He can use him to the fullest but it will remind him of a bad period... So he had his share already in his young life.
Therefore we decided that he can have some luck too in his life and what will bring him more joy then a dog for him? Not much I think... I think that would be the ultimate for him (and to be honest for us too because we are really dog people). So when we are going to live in our new home we take a puppy... The breed will be a Golden Retriever an no labrador. That is something from my wife her childhood, they always had Golden Retrievers. For me it makes no difference as long as it is a real dog and no dog about 20 cm long :P ....
We told Sam that he gets his own dog when we move and he was thrilled... We did told him that it is an big responsability, taking care of a dog. He has to go to puppyschool, walk him and pet him... And of course he promised us he would. And I don't question that for a minute....And besides that, he has me.... Also a dog and Sam loving guy ;) So we are gonna raise the dog all together...
I must say, I am looking forward to the moment he will join our family...
But first things first, we first have a lot of work to be done for the house but also for finding a great dog. nowadays in Holland there is a lot to do with dog breeders with bad intentions, so we have to search and get informed wisely...
