As usual this Friday we played the Hive Chess tournament organized by .
It's been four rounds and things have been going quite well in the development of this event. is still going strong. Today he showed incredible strength by defeating the strongest players in the tournament. With an incredible performance of 8.5 points this player seems to be one of the contenders for the title even though the league is just starting.
Anyone know what happened to ? we didn't see him in lichess today, I think he will drop several places now and it will be very difficult for him to get back to the top.
Sorry, today I couldn't record the games because I had some visitors here at home and well it was a little difficult to play like that xd.
I got 5th place. I'm not complaining, but I think I could have done more. At the beginning I had a couple of very unpleasant defeats which we will analyze in a moment. I don't know why but for some weird reason I thought the tournament was 3+2 and well actually it was 3+1, it seems like only a second but there is a huge difference, it seemed like it was a time control to finish. was much faster than that this time haha.
Even though I had a pretty ugly start, I was able to recover and in the end things were not so bad.

My games
I think I have said it more than once: a single blunder is enough to throw it all away. This game was quite painful because my material advantage was huge, white had some initiative but the position was getting simplified and there weren't enough resources for the attack to be effective, however, "" passed lol
I even find it funny because at the end of the tournament I analyzed this game with the engine and my first 14 moves were quite accurate. White played a king's gambit trying to cause some problems to my king in the center but the material sacrifices do not justify the resulting position. In the diagram I simply have 2 extra bishops, but with 15...)Qd6 things changed abruptly. White played 16)Rxe6+ and game over. Of course I should play 15...)Qf6 and white has nothing. The magic of blitz you kknow :)
In this game things were pretty much "quiet". White kept the slight advantage obtained in the opening. The "e4" pawn could be considered a weakness but the thing is that Black has no clear way to attack it. On the other hand, the "c6" pawn is quite susceptible. I was playing fast and I didn't realize that, maybe if I had noticed that detail things would have been different, I would have had a better plan. 18...)Bb4 was played and now I have the opportunity to get the advantage by playing Ba4 and black just has an ugly position, however I did not see this lan and I played 20)h3 and then Rf1, in other words, this has nothing to do with the position and I ended up loosing this game in the rush of time. Well played my friend .
Games with sawko are always rough. I managed to reach this position where black should not be bad, in fact I really like the attacking opportunity on the "f" file. But of course, the position is complicated and the slightest mistake will lead me to collapse.
White's queen on d4 is tied to the defense of f2, so I should not worry about the capture on d6. These are the moments when I make the most mistakes... I should have played something more solid and wait. Taking the pawn to g4 was interesting and would have given a different path to the game, in fact, 25...)g5 is a very good move, white can't penetrate black's position.
However, I played 25...)Nd3?? and ended up losing the game some 12 moves later.
Well, sometimes you have to evaluate before calculating. White's position is better due to the fact that he has the bishop pair, besides, the bishop on g7 doesn't have a good diagonal, so White's space advantage is quite strong. However, I played "automatically" because 21)Bxe5 was a bad move, it shows that I did not understand the position. Changing a piece just for changing it makes no sense. With this change all my advantage disappears and the game dries up too much. A move like 21)Rh5 or Bf5+ put a lot of pressure on Black.
For example 21)Rh5 threatening to take on e5 and then on g5, Black should play 21...)Rhe8 then 22)Bf5+ Kc7 23)Rh7 with white advantage.
The game ended in a draw a few moves later.
In the last round of the tournament I had to face one of Hivechess' favorite players with the black pieces. who has a quite extensive preparation in terms of opening repertoire is not a piece of cake. Recently we have played this variation of the London attack many times and without hesitation he uses it again. The game was quite interesting. White took the initiative with a strong attack on the kingside but I was kind of prepared in this line and knew I was safe.
Eniolw wanted blood, he very quickly took his rook to the "h" file and the two knights were stalking my king, in fact the f7 pawn is indefensible but, my strategy was based on counterattack. I knew that when the position developed the point on b2 would be very weak, so instead of worrying about defending I counterattacked on the "b" file. This time the strategy was successful, my f7 pawn died but thanks to that I could capture on b2 and thus my "a" pawn was free for its glorious march.
I ended up winning the game but almost the time pressure spoiled my plans. With this game I recovered and the 5th place was reached.
Thanks for reading guys and see you in the next game!
