It is such a good thing to see people show ambition and a zeal to be successful in life. Sometimes we even have to go the extra mile just to make sure we succeed. It is not a bad thing though to want to be successful and to pursue it but what happens when you over do it. The question most petinent here is:
At what cost??
There are some individuals who will do anything to be successful even if it means working 24/7 with no rest. This is frankly hazardous to one's health and body. Are you really that so thirsty for success that you will prefer to destroy yourself and health in the process? Sometimes you hear some people say, my work is so tedious and i barely even rest. This is so common nowadays especially with people who work abroad and have multiple jobs to attend to. Some of them only sleep and rest for about 3hours in 24hours.
Any normal person knows that this is so unhealthy but they do it anyways and consider it the price they have to pay. Some people stay away from their families, their wives/husbands rarely get to spend time with them, their kids rarely see them and when they are confronted about it, all they say is "i am doing this for us, to make our lives and future better" which is true but fail to realize that there will be no future to make better if things should continue that way because with such a workaholic attitude, it destroys your relationships with those you love and they end up leaving you.
We spend time chasing after money and success all our lives, working like machines without rest and after we must have accumulated the money, we start to use thesame money to manage health complications arising from the stress we have put our bodies through. And that's how the miserable cycle just goes on and on in many people.
Destroy your body to make money and only to use the money afterwards to rebuild yourself
How ironic is that? Some people even spend their lives working so hard that they barely rest and when their bodies are finally weak and broken, they decide to stop and enjoy the fruits of their very hard labour only for their bodies to give out the life in them and i ask myself what was the essence of all that work?
I used to admire one lady who works with an NGO. She receives a good pay and gets to travel a lot around the world. I used to say i want to be like her until i visited her one time and happened to spend some time with her. I was supposed to spend some few weeks but after just 5days, i was already making arrangement plans to go back home. She left the house everyday at 6am to return at 6pm, even with that she only came home only to take out her laptop and continue her work until about midnight, sleeps and gets up again by 3am to continue with her work, then prepares for work and departs by 6am. I went to spend time with her but barely did that. As if that was all, she barely spends 2 weeks in a row in her house. She travels all the time and you barely see her.
So i was just thinking what a nightmare it will be if i had a wife that works like that and i started reconsidering if that was the kind of life i really wanted.
Success, money that we all labour so much for comes to better our lives but at what cost?
Destroying ourselves, our health, depriving loved ones of your presence and time, having no time for fun and leisure, rest etc. Then what is the essence of it all? You work so hard that you have no life outside of work. There are more important things to life than just work. You have a life and you need to live it and not be some work freak. I once promised myself to study well and be the best at what i do so that people want me so bad that i get to negotiate my terms of work (especially working hours).
The body that works the money needs rest and other things not just work.
Don't destroy your health chasing after money only to use it afterwards to recover it which you may not be able to. Life does not have a duplicate.
