Hello everyone! Today is the Malaysia Day. I wish Selamat Hari Malaysia to all Malaysians. It is a special day because 16th of September, 1963 is the day of the formation of the Malaysian federation. So, I got a drawing and coloured it using colour pencils. I used two sets mainly which are Staedler Luna and Faber Castell colour pencils.
This is the drawing that I got on an A4 paper. Last year I did a complete poster artwork but this year I did colouring. It still was time consuming and took a few days to complete.
I first coloured the logo of Malaysia Prihatin which was the theme for last year. It was set last year when the Covid-19 pandemic was going on. Unfortunately it still is, so one of the reasons of keeping the same theme is to encourage everyone to continue fighting Covid-19 by doing our part and responsibility to keep it under control.
Then, I coloured the Malaysian flag.
Next, I coloured the people in colourful outfits. I thought that will make the artwork more cheerful. Malaysia is a multicultural and multiracial country. The people in the drawing represent the three main races which are Indian, Malay and Chinese respectively. They are all wearing the traditional outfits.
I added more layers to the Malaysian flag to increase the colour payoff and thus saturation. I added some shadows and highlights as well to give a 3 dimensional look.
This is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. It is a historic building which was built in the 19th century. It is located in Kuala Lumpur.
Then, I coloured the hibiscus flowers which is our national flower. This is how the artwork looks so far.
Here's a better look of the flower. I mixed multiple colours to colour it.
Then I proceeded to colour the other famous skyscrapers of Malaysia which are the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower. The Petronas Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in the world back then in 1998 to 2004. On the other hand, the KL Tower is a communications tower. I remember going to the top and I was amazed as I could see the entire Kuala Lumpur from there.
After that, I coloured began colouring the frontliners who are doing their level best to deal with the Covid-19 situation. They are honourable no matter how small or big their position is. The frontliners from the left are, a courier delivery staff, a policeman, a nurse and a doctor.
This is the final product. I coloured everything in cluding the wordings and the background. I made the background multicolour so that the artwork will look like a poster. For a strange reason they yellow on top background isn't so visible on camera. Perhaps I was holding it at the wrong angle but it is okay. I gave it a few times but I will leave it at that now.
Selamat Hari Malaysia again. Hopefully the Covid-19 situation will ease more. Thank you to all the frontliners for doing your best. Thank you for checking my post up and I hope that you have a great day.
