Creating a minimalist technological accessory / Creando accesorio tecnológico minimalista

Today I'm sharing my latest creation: a phone charger case and cable organizer, with an integrated design in one piece. I love the "all-in-one" design concept, and this one works perfectly because it hugs the charger's power adapter or cube and includes an extension made of the same material—a strip with a snap closure that allows you to wrap the cable directly around the cube.

Making something simple isn't always synonymous with easy. I put a lot of thought into this design, even measuring my own charger. It's lightweight, eye-catching, functional, and simple. A DIY project designed for those who love everyday objects that have style and purpose. When my son saw it, he said, "I want one for my iPhone charger, and in black leather!" And I realized that this product varies greatly depending on the type of charger, but today I'm going to show you how I made mine... Welcome!

Hoy les comparto mi más reciente creación: Una Funda para Cargado de Celular y Organizador de cable, con un diseño integrado en una sola pieza. Amo el concepto del diseño "Todo en uno" y este funciona así porque abraza el transformador o cubo del cargador y cuenta con una extensión en el mismo material, que es una tira con broche de presión que permite enrollar el cable directamente sobre el cubo.

Hacer algo simple no siempre es sinónimo de fácil, este diseño lo pensé mucho, midiendo mi propio cargador. Es ligero, llamativo, funcional y simple. Un proyecto DIY pensado para quienes aman que los objetos cotidianos tengan estilo y propósito. Cuando mi hijo lo vio me dijo: "Quiero uno para mi cargador de IPhone y en cuero negro", y me di cuenta que este producto cambia mucho de acuerdo a cada tipo de cargador, pero hoy te voy a mostrar como hice el mío... Bienvenidos.

Template Creation

• I placed the charger on the edge of a (recycled) sheet of paper.

• I drew a horizontal strip of the same width, extending to both sides of the cube.

• I drew a vertical strip of the same width, extending upwards, ensuring it reached the front of the cube, but with an additional 8 cm of clearance.

• On the vertical strip: I marked and cut out a space for the connector, taking its location into account, and rounded the top edge.

Elaboración de Plantilla

• Coloqué el cargador en el borde de una hoja (reciclada)
• Tracé una franja horizontal del mismo ancho, hacia ambos lados del cubo
• Tracé una franja vertical del mismo ancho, hacia arriba considerando que abrace hasta el frente del cubo, pero con una holgura adicional de 8cms aproximadamente.
• En la franja vertical: Marco y recorto un espacio para el conector, considerando el lugar del mismo, y redondeo el extremo superior.

To prevent the lining from slipping or sliding around the metal legs or pegs, I cut a strip of thin paper to fit between them, holding the die in place. I positioned this strip carefully.

I checked that the template design worked correctly and made any necessary adjustments.

I marked where the snap fasteners would be attached.

Para prever que el forro no se salga o deslice por la parte donde están las patas metálicas o clavijas, corté una tira de papel delgado para que pase de lado a lado entre ambas, de esta forma detendrá el dado. Esta tira la ubiqué considerando el lugar pertinente.

Compruebo que funcione bien el diseño de esta plantilla, y realizo los ajustes necesarios.

Marco el lugar donde se fijaran los broches de presión.

• I transfer the template to the back of the material I will be using.

• I double-check the design.

• I mark where I will place the first snap fastener using the awl. At this point, I will take advantage of attaching the first part of the fastener to join and secure the two horizontal strips.

• Transfiero la plantilla por el reverso del material que utilizaré.
• Vuelvo a confirmar el diseño.
• Marco donde colocaré el primer broche de presión utilizando el punzón. En este punto voy a aprovechar la colocación de la primera parte del broche para unir y fijar las dos tiras horizontales.

I attach the first part of this clasp, and as you can see, the horizontal part is now assembled and fixed. I attach the other part of this clasp to the end of the vertical piece.

• Fijo mi primer parte de este broche y como pueden ver ya queda armada la parte horizontal y fija. La otra parte de este broche lo coloco en el extremo de la pieza vertical.

For the bottom strip that holds the cube and passes between the pegs, I had initially designed a snap, but in practice I realized it wasn't necessary. The material adheres very well to the cube, and it wouldn't need to be removed to use the charger.

I even did a test and confirmed this, so I didn't use the snap and decided to simply glue the strip with liquid silicone. I'm still deciding whether to leave it like this for future models or add the snap for aesthetic reasons.

Para la tira inferior que funciona para contener el cubo y que pasa entre las clavijas, había establecido en mi diseño inicial un broche, pero en la práctica me di cuenta que no es necesario el broche, ya que el material queda muy pegado en el cubo y no sería necesario retirar para usar el cargador.

Incluso, hice una prueba y confirmé esto, así que no coloqué el broche y decidí solo pegar la tira con silicón líquido. Aún evalúo si lo dejaré así para los siguientes que haga, o si le colocaré el broche de presión por un tema de estética.

As you can see, the charging hub fits perfectly through the top of the lining, and the pins go through the bottom strip.

I insert the cable through the hole I left for this purpose and can close the clasp.

Como pueden ver el cubo del cargados puede entrar perfectamente por la parte superior del forro y las clavijas entran a través de la tira inferior.

Introduzco el cable por el orificio que dejé para esto y puedo cerrar el broche.

By opening the snap fastener, I can twist the cable around, insert it into the fastener, and close it. This way, the cable is neatly organized and won't get tangled.

Al abrir el broche de presión, puedo dar vueltas al cable e introducirlo en esta pieza y cerrar con el broche. De esta forma que bien organizado el cable y no se va a desordenar.

Here you can see the test I did with the charger plugged into the wall outlet. It's very stable; you can't even see a gap between the cube and the outlet.

I think adding that opening and closing strip between the prongs would complicate the design and detract from its beauty. That's what I think, anyway, but I'm going to make three or four more to give to my family and get their feedback on this aspect.

Aquí puedes ver la prueba que hice con el cargado conectado al tomacorriente de la pared, queda muy estable, ni siquiera se aprecia una separación entre el cubo y el tomacorriente.

Creo que colocar esa tira de entre las clavijas que se abra y se cierre, haría el diseño más complicado y eso le restaría belleza al diseño, es lo que creo, pero voy a hacer 3 o 4 más para regalarlos a mi familia y que me den su opinión sobre este aspecto.

I loved this design; I think the "all-in-one" design is brilliant—simple and modern. I'm going to keep working on my design and experimenting with other materials so that once I have a well-defined design, I can move on to more expensive materials like leather and metal snap fasteners.

Amé este diseño, me parece que el diseño "Todo en uno" es genial, simple y moderno. Voy a seguir trabajando en mi diseño y probando con otros materiales, para cuando ya tengo un diseño bien definido poder pasar a materiales más costosos como cuero y broches de presión de metal.
