Benefits of school meetings

As we know, classes have already started which implies the development of activities where parents are also included. That is why, in this post I want to focus and highlight the benefits of the school meetings that take place between the representatives of the children and teachers, since this week I had the opportunity to attend my son's school for the first meeting of this school period, where I could observe that more than fifty percent of the parents did not attend. However, it is worth noting that there are other means to establish communication with the teacher in order to be informed about the points discussed if it is not possible to attend on the scheduled day.

In this particular case, the meetings are held once a month when the projects are completed and are of short duration, which is a means of establishing a frequent conversation with the teacher to share concerns.

It is important to make the most of these meetings to raise all the doubts related to different aspects such as evaluations, grades, progress made, strengths and weaknesses, relationship with the group, as well as to define some strategies to help him at home, among others.

It is important to be aware of the day and time when the school meetings will be held in order to plan it in the day's activities and not to overlook them, as they are very beneficial in relation to:

Teacher-parent communication. These meetings allow to converse with the teacher and clarify doubts and concerns, especially when at home daily follow up on their homework and assignments so it is easier to define the points that are important to discuss with their teacher, however, in some cases it is necessary to raise concerns at the time and not wait for the meetings to seek solution, on the other hand allows to know better their teacher to create an atmosphere of trust and support.

Obtain general information about the study group. It is important to be punctual to the meetings to be well informed, to know the social development, the activities planned in group, the opinions of other parents in relation to a certain point, among others, in case it is necessary to take note of what was discussed to share at home, it is the right time to ask all the questions prepared or those that may arise in the conversation.

Planning and improvement of actions. After clarifying the doubts, if necessary, a plan of help can be made based on what has been discussed with the teacher to reinforce the aspects that require it, as well as to establish the strategies to follow for the next period, so that a follow-up and accompaniment should also be made, which can later be verified at the same time with the teacher.

Highlight the positive aspects. As well as sharing information from the meeting with the children, in relation to their grades, it is also possible to share and highlight the good and positive comments made by the teacher.

As we can see, it is very important to accompany children in their studies, and the best way to work together is with parents and teachers, so there must be communication and commitment from both parties. When parents are involved in the educational process of their children better results and better performance in their activities are obtained, on the other hand is a way to show interest in what they do at school so they feel more motivated, supported and accompanied by their parents.
