Welcome to my little corner on Hive!
Last Friday, I saw an informative video on Instagram where it announced that every Sunday an avenue will be opened in the coastal edge of Antofagasta, the city where I live, so that all citizens have a free space for recreation. This initiative is a program of one of the largest mining companies in Chile, Fundación Minera Escondida, belonging to the Australian corporate group BHP and CREO Antofagasta. In this sense, my husband and I decided to go on Sunday to enjoy this recreational space. I invite you to see the advertisement here
The Program "Vive tu Borde Costero", provided for all people 4.5 km of free recreation between Trocadero Beach and Pablo Neruda Square from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Also, they offered free services such as hydration points, sunscreen, bicycle and skate repairs, bicycle loans and first aid attention. Among these, the bike loan was what motivated us the most to do some exercise outdoors and feel the sea breeze on my face, besides filling me with good energy and having a good time.
We arrived at one of the points at 10:00 in the morning. There, we were attended by some very nice young men. One of them asked me for my identity card as a guarantee to lend us the bikes and wrote my name in a book in which I put my fingerprint. Once that was done, we went to choose the bikes, but the one I chose had no brakes, so another guy changed it for me, I tried the brakes and they worked fine. On the other hand, as a funny anecdote, Nando took one of the boys' bikes, because it was near the loaner bikes and just when we were about to leave with the bikes, the young man noticed it and said to my husband: "Sir, that bike is mine!". We all looked at each other and burst out laughing. Obviously, Nando took another bike and off we went.
During the ride we enjoyed the beautiful panorama of the immense blue sea, I also enjoyed seeing people walking, jogging or biking just like us. We also made a short stop to refill our thermos of water to hydrate ourselves.
On the way back, we ran into some kids who were apparently having a skating competition. I stopped for a moment to take pictures and make a little video of them.
By the time, mwe were getting to the point to return the bikes, my legs were tired, as we cycled a total of 9 km.
After delivering the bikes, they gave me back my ID card. Then, we approached a small enterprise that was selling strawberries with cream and "mote con huesillo", a typical Chilean drink, which I like a lot because it is quite refreshing. We ordered a mote con huesillo and drank them sitting on the grass admiring the beautiful view of Trocadero Beach. There we rested for a while and finally we went home.
Undoubtedly, we spent a Sunday as we had not done for a long time and we were filled with good and beautiful energies. The truth is that we were very happy with the experience and we want to repeat it, because it is an economical and fun way to take care of our body and mind.
Thank you for joining me on this Sunday walk and for all your support!
