The first flower of the newly formed branch of buds has opened up this morning :-D
So Exciting!! ..
Our orchid is again blooming. It always takes forever for them to go from bud to bloom, but when they do the flowers last months. It was about 20 days ago when I last posted something about my houseplants. You can see the slow growth given the side by side photo below. I first noticed the little budding bloom branch, popping out at the base of the plant when I was watering it. That was well before Christmas, and most likely 12 to 16 weeks ago. What a span of time, and I just wait and wait and wait and wait.. for what seems like an eternity. Eventually the branch reaches the desired height and blooms form then open.
First photo is from approximately 20 days ago and the next one is from this morning..
Same thin, different orchid.. a little slower of a grower, but blooms last so much longer than the other. First shot is from 20 days ago and the next is from this morning..
I Have Two Different Types Of Orchids ..
And the most frustrating thing is I know nothing about either one of them. I can tell you that one of them blooms off of one strait stalk in either 8 or 10 flowers, while the other is more branched and erratic in its bloom numbers. They are different colors and the plant leaves are slightly different too. I am obviously quite smart enough to notice all the little differences, but to dumb to buy an orchid book or take an orchid class.. anything to learn about them. Even though I only own two plants, I am really quite fascinated with them. What is my hold up on wanting to learn more about them?
More To Come ..
I'll update you once they are in full bloom. The purplely pink one is always such a slower grower than the one that is in bloom now. So it may be a while for that one. Last time though, the blooms lasted for 6 months! crazy!! It is my goal before I post about this next and before They are in full bloom, to learn names and facts about these babies. I can do this! I can!!
This is an old picture from the last time they bloomed. I didn't want to leave you hanging, just in case you never get back to my blog to see them in full bloom. So Enjoy these OLD bloom pictures.. hehe.
The Orchid Flower
by Sam Hamill
Just as I wonder
whether it's going to die,
the orchid blossoms
and I can't explain why it
moves my heart, why such pleasure
comes from one small bud
on a long spindly stem, one
blood red gold flower
opening at mid-summer,
tiny, perfect in its hour.
Even to a white-
haired craggy poet, it's
purely erotic,
pistil and stamen, pollen,
dew of the world, a spoonful
of earth, and water.
Erotic because there's death
at the heart of birth,
drama in those old sunrise
prisms in wet cedar boughs,
deepest mystery
in washing evening dishes
or teasing my wife,
who grows, yes, more beautiful
because one of us will die.

About Me ~ The Artist
My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.
Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.
For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.
