Makeup is about balance. When the eye makes a statement, the lips should be quiet. - Francois Nars
Aaaah yes, "BALANCE" that one, VERY IMPORTANT little word which separates the delightful from the cringe worthy...
And whilst this post is not strictly related to make-up - I thought I would cross the bridge over those troubled waters first lol! By ALL means get into the "flow" of things, but find that straight line of cut-off at some point... please! Waves are good, but not when you have an ocean of them plastered on your face...
Whether referring to make-up, fashion or decor - there is such a thing as "too much" when it comes to the use of colour. Kids are the masters of the "too much" syndrome, lol - as they will usually develop a passion for a certain colour, and then absolutely everything worn must be that colour. Sadly however, this "monotone obsession"... seems to have stuck around through into adulthood for some people.
You have seen the above example of what "too much" is... now - below is just the right amount of one colour with the correct balance of another...
Let's do this one more time...
This is too much...
and this is just the right amount...
THIS PRINCIPLE TRANSLATES INTO DECOR TOO....
This is just complete overkill.... and to be quite honest, I think I would become utterly depressed if I had to spend any length of time in a room THAT blue.
and this is well balanced and very easy on the eye... far more uplifting in my opinion.
single colour feature walls are an amazingly effective way to bring a strong pop of colour into an area, without having to decorate everything else in the same colour...
because when you do that - you end up with this...
I think I officially have a headache now...lol
To my mind - if you want a focal colour in a specific room, it is better to do the foundation of the room in a neutral and then add accents of colour with ornaments, pillows, feature walls etc. That way - if you are anything like me and bore easily... you can quite quickly and inexpensively give the room a colour revamp when your mood changes... haha
So... now that we are on the same page...
Happy Decorating & Dressing peeps :)
oh and PS. These are my opinions... you don't HAVE to agree ;)
