In a previous post, I said that the bees had at last discovered the flowers on my Chrystal Apple cucumber and so I was crossing fingers that there would be cucumbers coming shortly.
Never having grown this cucumber before, I have been watching it closely.
The cucumbers, when ready for harvest, are white in colour and round like an apple - but taste the same as the regular cucumbers.
Two days ago, I was delighted to see the first cucumber forming - great excitement!
Anyway, I am keeping an eye on the plants and hoping there will be many more to come.
Those beastly stink bugs have also discovered the plants and so every day I do a search for these beastly critters and knock them into a jar of water where they drown.
There is a bit of powdery mildew on some of the bottom leaves, but I am not too concerned about this at present - just removing any leaves that look bad.
The cucumber has little prickles covering it, but I am told that these just rub off easily when harvested.
I am looking forward to being able to harvest and taste these cucumbers!
