Schlumberger is world’s largest service provider in oil industry. Over last twenty years SLB bought many seismic companies and integrated them into itself. The final name of seismic Company · with SLB was WesternGeco.
I worked with SLB for 16+ yrs and all these years I have been advocating for integration of seismic with borehole measurements for improved reservoir Characterization and exploitation. Unfortunately even by today that integration has not happened , at equation level, even across industry.
SLB was a credible force that could achieve it. And it’s R&D had started working towards that goal but just then the oil prices collapsed and everything fell apart.
And now SLB management has to take this painful decision. Another big company in this field was CGG which is going through bankruptcy.
It is more painful for a geoscientist to see this happening many of whom are already unemployed.
Geoscientists are excellent data analysts dealing with massive seismic and other data. At this time I think they should migrate to data analytical and AI industry and use their acquired skill there.
