Mahiri is a women clothes BRAND that is conceived by VOWS and launched on 19th May 2018 at the Constitution Club of India, Delhi. VOWS an NGO is working for the empowerment of poor women for over 10 years. Ms Salma Francis, President VOWS with all her team members (Mrs Aminder Preet, Mrs Vineeta Singh, Major Kripal Singh, Ms Kalyani (Secy VOWS) is the force behind it.
The clothes of the Mahiri Brand are stitched by the poor women who live in JJ Colonies. VOWS provides them training and necessary skills to become self dependent by earning their respectable livelihood in a very comfortable, friendly, and harassment free safe environment.
The same clothes stitched by these poor women were gracefully ramp walked by Miss India 2014 Koyal Rana and Miss United Nations 2017 Amisha Chaudhary.
Shri Aadesh Gupta, Mayor North Delhi MCD, Mrs Barkha Shukla, Ex DCW Chairperson, Mrs Swati Verma w/o Hon’ble MP Pravesh Verma, Mr Sunil Sethi, President FDCI, Actor Rahul Roy, Aashiqui Fame, Mr Bhisham Singh, DCP Delhi graced the occasion as chief guest.
The event was started with auspicious lightning of lamp by the dignitaries.
Mrs Aminder Preet, Executive Member VOWS( wife of Shri Bhisham Singh, DCP Crime Branch) welcomed the guest and gave a very motivating speech about the cause of VOWS. She is true brand ambassador for VOWS.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Mr Jagmohan, Member Secy, Delhi Legal Service Authority, Marut Sikka, India’s Culinary Ambassador & owner Delhi Club House , Mr Sibesh Singh, DCP Dwarka Distt, Shri Rajender Gautam, Hon’ble Minister, Social welfare Delhi, and Ms Preeti Ghai, renowned designer & social reformer, Mr Pravin Kumar, General Secretary of Indo Latin American Chamber of Commerce,and Mr Utpal Borpujari, Film Maker & Film Critique.
Ms Shilpi Marwah, Director Sukhmanch Theater staged a Play ( Natak) “Aajiveeka” for women empowerment. Her show was best applauded by the audience.
And there were other cultural events that were also enjoyed by the audience.
And nonetheless the least -the star of the evening for me was none other than Rahul Roy. The heartbeat hero of Aashiqui that came in 1990 when we were in our first year of M.Tech in IIT Roorkee. I regret not to get a selfie with him.
The songs of that movie were and still are the best for my generation. Enjoy one of the song from that movie.
