Plate tectonics is the theory that tells us that there are plates that float upon the mantle and have a lot of influence in creating new lands (mountains, oceans etc).
There are many different types of boundaries.
-Convergent: These boundaries are formed when 2 plates move towards each other and one of them goes under the other plate.
-Divergent: When 2 plates move away from each other.
-Transform: When 2 plates erode while going sideways or past each other.
What is a Mid-Ocean Ridge?
A mid-ocean ridge is a series of underwater mountains which are formed by plate tectonics/movement of plates
What are the major plates?
The nine major plates are North American, Pacific, Eurasian, African, Indo-Australian, Australian, Indian, South American and Antarctic. The largest plate of them all is the Pacific Plate at 39,768,522 square miles (103,000,000 square kilometers).
