Hi all, I started my YouTube channel over 4 years ago now and at the time it was a daunting prospect and I was even then aware of how difficult it is to get recognised. I wasn't financially driven and at first the channel wasn't even monetised. I did eventually monetise the channel because I wanted it to fund itself, to bring in an income so that I can show new things regularly that would help people to be prepared. Running the channel has cost me hundreds, if not thousands of pounds. Equipment to actually present things, camera equipment, better computer than I had to edit the footage on and the electricity and running costs. In recent light of things happening with YouTube it's now clear that the channel on YouTube will never fund itself based on their broken advertiser model.
They do not tailor and work with advertisers so that relevant adverts are shown with relevant video material. In my case with my channel you'd expect that outdoor equipment, torches, tools, people who make knives, camping equipment makers and producers would be matched with my channel. I've seen my channel on a browser with uBlock not installed and the adverts tailored with the video's have absolutely nothing to do with prepping. They are low quality mass produced and distributed adverts that are not going to fund the channel at all. Coupled with the recent 'adgate' all advertisers have pulled from YouTube and now obviously the few cents I was getting per video has COMPLETELY dried up.
So as another prepper said this is an opportunity. So what am I doing? Well I'm moving towards blockchain sites such as Steemit and looking into cryptocurrency. My good friend and experienced Steemit user BarryDutton is helping me out with that :-) I'm a total nib when it comes to crypto and blockchain. VidMe is likely in 2 months or less to be the primary video platform I upload all my video's to. They are much more friendly and engaging (the users and the admin) The staff at VidMe will actually get directly in touch with you and help you with problems.
I am also on Minds now. VidMe is where articles with video on Steemit and Minds will be directed to. Video's will no longer be linked to my YouTube channel. I've left the YouTube channel monetised, however I've turned off all three of the optional ways to display adverts on Video's. If YouTube is not going to support the creator's then I'm going to reduce their revenue however little it may be from my channel even further. Once I've moved over all video's from YouTube to VidMe I'll then exclusively upload to VidMe all new video's and then after 2 months remove completely my YouTube channel, delete my Adsense account and then delete any accounts I have related to Geordie Prepper or not that I have with Google.
I am a great believer in Peaceful non-compliance, it is the most devastating tool that we can ever wield. We can win any battle against anything oppressing us by simply doing nothing. If we do this and they attack then any and ALL actions after that in our defence are lawfully justified.
So in other words you'll be seeing more of me on Steemit and I hope you enjoy what I show, it's intention is to make people better prepared for personal, local, national, international events that could affect you, and all of us. Hope you check me out on the other platforms too and subscribe/follow me on VidMe. If you make video's and are not on there already I'd highly recommend you browse the site and check it out. It's such a great sense of community over there.
Be safe and be prepared
Geordie Prepper
