Mike Pence, governor of Indiana, was named Donald Trump's Vice Presidential pick today. As a Trump supporter he is not the selection I would have made. I think Newt Gingrich would have been a better pick to complement Trump. But here are the reason I believe Pence is a solid choice. He checks all the boxes you look for in a running specifically for Trump. He is reserved, strong conservative background. He has done wonders for the state of Indiana financially. This selection will help bring some of the #NeverTrump people into the fold as well as those that worry about how conservative Trump really is. Trump is an attack dog and did not really need another attack dog, like Christie. Pence is level headed and mild mannered; a good contrast to Donald Trump. I don't think he could have gone wrong with either Pence or Gingrich, but it will be interesting to see what the main stream media pulls up on him in the coming weeks. With Gingrich all they could have done is dusted off old skeletons. Pence's closest has not been dug through as thoroughly.
