In the Netherlands they adopt the attitude that attempting to escape from prison is a healthy and normal response to being incarcerated, they consider it human nature to try. Therefore, you are not charged with any crime for the attempt, or the successful escape if you make it, but you will be brought back to finish your original sentence, and if you commit any new crimes, either during the attempt or while on the loose, you will be held accountable for those.
If you do make it, and you're on the lam for a while, and you manage it all without committing any new crimes, they might even look at that favourably at your next parole hearing, something to show you will be responsible with your freedom if released.
LMAO, compare that to the US.
