Encrypted E-Mail service Tutanota has come under crossfire by their own government.
I recently heard some rumors that they are now forced to comply to their local government and I asked them via twitter for a statement:
- This applies only to non-encrypted emails received/sent after the court order has been issued.
- End-to-end encrypted emails are not affected.
- End-to-end encrypted data (calendar, contacts, etc) are not affected.
- A valid German court order is required for this.

Plus there's a thread on r/privacy discussing the situation

My Opinion
Big oof. I used Tutanota in the past, but this is - for me - the nail in the coffin. How many of my E-Mails are not encrypted? Probably 99%, and Tutanota does NOT encrypt your inbox.
I'm actively trying to make people use DMail (based on Bitcoin protocol), and I moved for legacy E-Mails to criptext, which does not keep any E-Mails on their servers after you received them.
Anyways, stay safe and let me know your opinion in the comment section below!
Do you use encryption/PGP? Would you move over to services like DMail?
By the way, if you want to try DMail send me one to fav.id
