Firstly, I'm not a fanboy of any of the above companies. People have different usecase for their device and both serve a different crowd. I have used both of their devices and think they serve their own purpose to a targeted demographic. Google has gotten so many free services that you can hardly escape the influence and the quality of their application. But with this freedom, you are actually giving them quite a bit of your own information to use them to advertise to you. Apple on the other hand sells overpriced devices, that don't quite justify the amount of money you spend on them. Facebook is just a douchebag with that got lucky with itself and doesn't provide much of any other service than social media.
So, now you've got one company that sells you overpriced devices with incentives to buy even more of their products with their walled ecosystem. And on the other hand you've got a company that relies on a lot of your information to sell you products. Hiding behind applications, there is Google's ability to gather precise data. And it has never been so powerful with the rise of Android devices. Your whereabouts, your chats, your pictures, your browsing habits, your contacts, and your interests. It is inevitable that they will use it to make more products to entice more users to giveaway data. Apple's mobile efforts haven't been much successful as they don't have as much data as Google. And it is still in the "I'm rich" buyers market.
Google has been testing their supercomputers and Quantum computers. They have already broken SHA-1 encryption algorithm. So even your encrypted file are not safe on the Google Drive or even on your device? This may be far-fetched but the possibility is endless. Apple on the other hands has been known to fought for user privacy against Government intervention.
So, is privacy worth the overwhelming price that Apple products make you pay or you don't have nothing to hide with Google so you will give them any permission to gather data off of you. The dilemma goes beyond fanboyism. Android OS are on cheap handsets on sale that thrive on the developing and under developing nations. There's no saying that many countries will become super-powers in the near future. But the government wouldn't be the one with the most data, it would be Google. On the other hand Apple's Siri and Maps are still lagging a few years behind the amount of quality to their Google counterparts. The Android device can be rooted to remove traces of Google, but the number of people that can accomplish that are low and you can't really be certain if you aren't the developer of the said ROM. You still work on Google's source code.
So would you prefer a overpriced device with privacy that lack quality apps like Maps and Siri, or you're happy with Google binging on your data while you're sleeping. What's your take on this?
