Over the last few years, I learned the importance of having a day dedicated to stillness and creative pursuits. Without this particular day, it’s easier for me to get burned out and exhausted. Hence, I pick Sunday as the day when I take a break from my life. As some of you know, it’s also my favorite day to re-think and re-consider my plans or activities I have been doing the past week. It’s also the day where I remind myself to focus on my goals and long-term plans.
From my own experience, if I am constantly working, dealing with the same topic everyday, meeting the same people, dealing with the same situation; it’s easier to get bored which will result in lowering my productivity the following week.
My creative pursuits are mostly something that gets me away from the screen; either art or reading. In my day to day life, I try to read but it’s not the same as Sunday when I actually get to read and get lost in the book, without knowing I have some responsibilities.
When it comes to art, though I can't say I am a good drawer but I am pretty good at coloring. So, that is something that I try to do during Sunday, coloring books or just mixing matching colors . Other than that, I watch movies and eat food where I am not really compelled to share it with the world. To me, sometimes, the most enjoyable moments are something that I only share with a few.
Lately, I am also trying to explore mobile photography. I tried taking more pictures on my phone and giving it a bit of touch. I realized that when we give some more finishing to the pictures, they will turn out somewhat more appealing. I haven’t really set up a dedicated space for it but since I will be stuck around here for much longer, why not have one, a space just for taking pictures.
What I miss from these Sundays is when I can spend time with mom. We have been living apart for more than a month now, and I am still finding it difficult to adjust. I normally go somewhere with her to have a coffee date but these days, I just spend it inside my room again, just myself and a caramel macchiato. The silver lining from it all, is that I have extra privacy and more stillness.
