For mobile phone users:
The logic here, is very simple, all that needs to be done is to follow a few VERY SIMPLE guidelines. Many years ago, I re-built a house; I left the Royal Navy and used my “retirement” fund to build “myself” a “dwelling”. During the rebuild, many things needed to be done, plumbing, wiring, woodwork, stonework, decorating to name but a few; And, following the "rule of thumb", (hire the right person to do the job), (A professional); Well, that turned out to be not so easy. The plumber was not a plumber but a cow-boy who flooded my bathroom, the builder was not a builder but a bricklayer in disguise, the carpenter’s skills were akin to a child’s wood-turning skills is school, and the electrician managed to make a third of the walls “live” in my “dwelling”. What started out to be an estimated 5000-pound job ended up to be a 15,000-pound job of corrections; Enter stage left the “Pro,” […]
The Pro. said to me, “If you had come to me in the first place, I’d have charged you 7000-pounds to do the work, yes I cost more, but I do the job right first time, I leave all of my clients feeling well satisfied, content and happy; where the majority go on to recommend my work by word of mouth to each of their friends and or colleagues”.
I thought for a while, (Thought process … … …); “Ah; What the world needs is a professional electronic, view-able, editable, use-able environment where like-minded professionals can share their skills, trade tips and tricks of their trade while advertising their ability to generate a better income”. How simple is that? [LinkedIn]?
The hard part I had, was the defining of the term, “The Professional”; As the only “Pro’s” that I knew (after 22 years sailing the seven sea’s) neither published their skill-set “electronically”, nor preferred to be “sold as seen” via an advertisement; That left very little common working ground to define a Pro.; Though a Pro. and a Pro. are the same, in how they apply their different trades. We have to separate at this point the “good all-rounder”, “handy-man” or “woman” from the dedicated specialist of their trade.
The Pro. does not use a “rule book”, but knows everything there is in their field of work, and the task in “hand”; Yes, they do read and do communicate with like-minded Pro’s., to enhance their skill-set, but have no need for step by step guide; That’s what makes them a Pro. (for a fee)
A Pro. can mentally and visually see what needs to be done for a client, the client just say’s how they want things to be in the end; It’s the Pro. that does the due-process from the beginning to the end, (for a fee).
A Pro. does have “tools of the trade”, each tool is unique to their client’s needs; And on the occasion where a new tool needs to be designed for a client, then the Pro. knows just what is required; That's what makes them A Pro. (for a fee).
A Pro. knows how to satisfy their clients; That’s called “job satisfaction”, if the client is happy and content, (with a smile of their face), then the Pro. is also happy. (for a fee).
A Pro. presents themselves to their client wearing an attire that is commensurate to their trade; where what they ware is suitable for each specific task that is require of a Pro. (for a fee).
A Pro. will, at the client’s communicated request, offer their own unique oral skills as an enhancement to any task in hand, (for a fee).
A Pro. will, (on occasion), record and log their activities; to offer to the client a future “correction tool” or an “Aide –Memoir” for their future activities, (for a fee).
A Pro. understands the plumbing problems and where a leak is likely to occur offering an oral rectification process towards the predicted leak, and or a manual capture device as a correction to avoid the leak, (for a fee).
A Pro. does not discriminate on the size of the job in hand, big or small, the Pro. will always deliver the absolute best for each and every client, (for a fee).
A Pro. views the job as a projected “time scale of events”, a lead-in time, a due-process time, a finalization time, and a clean-up, close down time, where the “edges” of each are seamlessly intertwined, producing a truly exhilarating experience (of the Pro.) for each and every client, (for a fee).
This list can go on, and on; Any GOOD Pro. will tell you that, it can be as short as needed, a simple process of due-diligence; To a long complex procedure to produce the most amazing results, and it’s all down to the fee.
So, if you want to corners, save on money, speed things up, get it over and done with in the shortest possible time, then don’t ask a Pro. They are not interested, go hire an "expert", a "has-been", handy-man (or) woman; Who are prepared to do half the job for a quarter of the price that will leave you in a mess that will cost seven times the amount in the first place to correct; and that is a VERY BIG FEE; Which, is a result of the miss-interpretations of contractual obligations between the client and the Pro.
To define the “Contractual Obligations”; Well that’s for another day.
