We love Steemit. We all do, right? We come here every day to read, write, and interact with other Steemians. Most of us do this in our free time. Some have the luxury of doing this as a job, perhaps...but most do this as a hobbie or as something fun.
For me, this is fun. I have always enjoyed writing, and interacting with other people. Some of you may remember the website Epinions? Maybe it still exists. I used to post there regularly back in college when it first came out. Enjoyed doing product reviews and interacting with the Epinions community. Recently I was able to take on a management position at my employer, and I am now able to focus more on interaction with people. This is more exciting to me than writing code, or calibrating algorithms (a former job I had). I enjoy competition and interaction with other humans.
Steemit is a place where you can relieve a little stress, tell others about your day, get advice...or even learn about cryptocurrency (shocker). There are photography contests, musicians, artists, master chefs, and even a few trolls here and there (a website would not be complete without trolls).
Overall, we are a community...a young community. I would venture to say we are still at the beginning. It's EXCITING! We are on the biggest, fastest, and best blockchain out there right now. We have some great projects going, others on the way, and many many more to come in the future. We have serious startups committed to using our blockchain (Vice, Bob's Repair) with hopefully more to follow. Smart Media Tokens are an ingenious new technology that should reshape the way 'attention' is processed on the internet. YOUR ATTENTION IS VALUABLE.
2018 will hopefully be a big year for Steem and Steemit. I hope to see improvements made to this site, so that it will inevitably attract the masses...and turn into (or overtake) Reddit as far as user base goes. I want to see Steemit adapt some of the great features Facebook has (chat, friend list, better timeline/feed, integrated post editor...to name a few).
Clean up is needed as well. Reward pool abusers, spam, garbage posts, multiple accounts for upvoting your own comments. There are also some controversial things up for debate...like voting bots, Steemfollower...and the like. Are they needed? Should they be allowed? Will they be around in a year or 2?
Overall, this is our site. We need to take care of it, and help it grow. Make it a place where people can come for the best content, opinions, and expertise.
STEEM ON, MY FRIENDS!
