PART 3a PROMOTION METHODS
As part of our launch for #promo-steem we here below give 10 examples of promotional techniques that we use here at #promo-steem and the rules we use to carry them out. These methods are guidelines only and you can suggest your own which, if we feel are in the spirit of #promo-steem we will incorporate into this blog for others to use and learn from!
If you would like to help us promoting Steemit using the methods detailed below or your own methods but require funding, part 3b “Submitting a Pitch” provides the instructions you need to follow in order to obtain interest free micro loans.
Promotion Method
1. Create Promo-Team in your Country (with Hashtag)
The most important thing is to give people on Steemit a way of following your progress and for new people to come to Steemit with a community they already know. It is therefore important to create the hash tag to your country and tag all of your posts with the following 2 hash tags as a minimum:
#promo-steem
#promo-“YOUR COUNTRY NAME”
For example since I am based in the UK all of my promotional posts are tagged with #promo-steem and #promo-uk
2. Flyering
One of our easiest ways to get the word about Steemit out is to create flyers and hand them out from door to door. Using the example of #promo-uk we have distributed almost 85,000 flyers to our team member across the UK. These are currently being posted door to door. We have allocated approximately 5,000 flyers per city. If you would like to use this method to promote Steemit, we suggest you start with 5,000 flyers and build from there.
PLEASE NOTE: we only use flyering for posting through letter boxes or for leaving 30-40 flyers in local businesses such as shops, barbers, beautician shops, and convenience stores. We also stick our flyers to walls in communal areas such as university notice boards. WE LIMIT handing out our flyers in the street to an absolute minimum in order to avoid littering of our flyers.
See below for our typical flyer designs. You can improve on this if you would like and design your own. If you would like, we can send you our designs to save you some time.
We suggest adding a QR code to the design in order to redirect interested users to a Steemit introduction blog such as the one written by for Huddersfield (a town in the UK) here
We have learned that it is best to flyer door to door in areas where house are very close together, as you get more flyers delivered
You can receive up votes and Steemit love using this method by blogging about the following:
- When you order the flyers (with photos) example here
- When you receive the flyers (with photos) - example here
- When you post the flyers (with 5,000 flyers you should be able to make at least 10 – 15 blogs) (with photos) - example here
An example of our flyer is shown here. Please let us know if you would like the designs and we will send to you on a case by case basis. Please do not forget to make sure the hash tag #promo-“YOUR COUNTRY NAME” and the QR code on the flyer link to your welcome blog!!!
3. Business Card Hand Out
We recommend printing 500 business cards to start with. These should include the Steemit logo with Blog Vote Post Earn and #promo-“YOUR COUNTRY NAME” on one side with your Steemit on the other side. If you have many members to your promo team in your country, then also put the names of these people. Additionally you should put a QR code to either your blog or the tag #promo-“YOUR COUNTRY NAME” on the business card.
This will help people know how to find your blog and hopefully get them onto the site
For example for promo UK, the business card would be:
A really cool steemian who designs business cards is This steemian has really nice business card designs HERE
4. T-Shirt Selfie
The T-shirt selfie technique is simple. You and a friend with a camera take selfies with people while you are wearing a Steemit t-shirt, everyone in the picture should point to the Steemit logo on your T-shirt. This works best if you go to a crowded area such as a large event, a festival, a carnival, a concert, an exhibition or a tech meetup, if you know other events or have ideas for places, please let us know and we will add them!
First you approach the people and say something like “hello, I am promoting a site called Steemit.com where you can receive money for upvotes if the community likes your work. I am carrying out an experiment where I want to see how many upvotes I can receive, whilst promoting Steemit by taking selfies with you wonderful people and posting them to my blog.
If the people agree, you get the selfie and then leave them with the address to your blog. This can be done by giving them the business card or having them take a photo of your blog on your smart phone so they can see your blog and see the address of the blog.
You leave them saying “please check my blog in 2 days so you can see your photo and hopefully that it made some money!” Or something along those lines
You will receive up votes if you blog about this event and the selfies you took that show how many people you told about steemit!
University Tour
We plan to use this method (T-shirt Selfie) on our university tour where #promo-uk will visit the major universities in around the UK during the first 2 weeks of university! We are really excited about this and are looking for volunteers to come help us promote Steemit! Please see here for the route map and preliminary dates
5. T-shirt Selfie with celebrities
If you have access to or can find a way of getting a selfie next to a celebrity while you are wearing the Steemit T-shirt with them pointing to the T-shirt, this is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and the community will love it when you blog it!
If you can get the celebrity to wear the Steemit T-shirt for the photo, then this is even better!
You will receive up votes if you blog about this event and the selfies you took that show how many celebrities you told about steemit!
6. Free Steemit T-shirt Giveaway
One of the ideas we will trial during our university tour in September 2017 is the free T-shirt give away. This practise is to be carried out at large events or gatherings only. The idea is that a free T-shirt is provided to someone who:
a) Agrees to wear the T-shirt all day during the event
b) Signs up to Steemit right there and then
Once the sign up confirmation is received on their device, we give them a free Steemit T-shirt and they must have their picture taken with you so that you can blog about it.
See the picture below for our Steemit T-shirt design, If you need this in digital format we can provide it so that you can print it out locally.
If it is more cost effective, we will ship the T-shirts to your location, so please let us know the cost of printing the T-shirts locally at your city, if this is higher than the shipping costs, we will try to arrange to send you the T-shirts, however, you will have to cover the costs of the T-shirt + shipping.
You will receive up votes if you blog about how many free T-shirts you gave away, upload photographs of this, and show how many people you got to sign up to steemit!
7. Banner / Tarpaulin / Flag at event
We think it would be GREAT to have Steemit flags, banners and tarpaulins flying at events, positioned at busy billboards and especially at events that are being televised!! So we would like to know how much this will cost you to do in your area / country and we will consider sponsoring it or providing an interest free loan.
8. Educational Event
Help people learn about Steemit and all of the benefits to being involved with the community by putting on an educational event! I have done this and it was a great success, people really can’t believe how great Steemit is once someone shows them how it works! See herefor an example of this.
Additionally is an amaaaazing steemian and he puts on great educational events see here
is a great example of how to promote steemit!
Also another fantastic role model steemian is @Jassennessaj has put on great sign up and educational events at universities in the Philippines! They are truly amazing! See his blog here.
As a general rule he does the following:
Materials:
- Pin Badges
- Name cards / placards
- Flyers
- Registration list
- Steemit presentation on power point
What he does:
Following registration and making sure everyone has their Steemit materials, he opens with an icebreaker and delivers a presentation about Steemit including:
- Steemit and How it functions
- How can we earn?
- What are the rules on Steemit
- Steemit Markdown Techniques
- Proper usage of Tags
- Some techniques to Succeed in Steemit
His collegue the takes over and continues with:
- What is Steem, Steem Power, and Steem Dollars
- Steem Power vs Voting Power
- Reward Pay out Computation
- How to withdraw your earnings
They then use their name tag / placards to photograph each new member on the Steemit platform to show how many sign ups they achieved and introduce the new people to Steemit!
This is truly a great event every time!
9. Help spread the work on Steemit!
There are Great Steemians like who constantly searches Steemit for valuable projects and initiatives. He has promoted our initiative and written blogs about it (see here)!
This is truly really valuable work and the community needs more people to provide recognition to the projects that are helping Steemit grow! Please follow for the best info on more great initiatives on Steemit!
10. Use your social media network
I am sure you are all using your social media to spread the word about Steemit. That is great! Can you push it to the next level? For example is taking it to the next level by doing paid internet advertisements about Steemit all crowd funded on Steemit!! He raised over 3,000 dollars for his last campaign on Steemit!! INCREADIBLE! He has a really great campaign! I recommend you follow his work to support him and for ideas on how to do this yourself! Please see an example of his internet marketing campaign here!
