More than 70% of our beautiful blue planet is occupied by the ocean, and more than 80% of it is yet to even be explored at least by humans. Although when you look at the world map they all seem connected. Oceanographers and geographers have decided to divide them into five distinct regions: the Pacific (my favourite), Indian, Atlantic, Arctic and Antarctic/Southern oceans. I am certain the ocean doesn't mind our giving it names, after all, it's a very peaceful giant.
According to the Business Insider the ocean contains 228,450 known marine species ranging from seaweeds to blue whales and as many as 2 million more that remain a mystery owing to the yet to be explored chunk of the ocean.
If you ever thought that there are a lot of amazing sites on the surface (land) that occupies only about 30% of the planet, then imagining the wonders we would find underneath the ocean would blow your mind away. Some of them are;
- The Mid Atlantic Ridge
This is a long line of volcanic mountains that are responsible for the separation of the continents. these volcanic mountains run through most parts of the ocean floor.
- Trenches deeper than Mount Everest (Mariana trench)
- The tallest mountain from base to summit on earth; Mont Kea in Hawaii

- The Belize Barrier Reef
Famous evolutionist Charles Darwin described it as "the most remarkable reef in the West Indies" a statement still believed to be true by present-day world explorers and tourists.

These are just a few of the many wonders that can be found in the ocean.
However, what draws me the most to the ocean is its seeming peace and serenity that comes with living in its big blue silence. Sometimes I wish I was a dolphin or a turtle swimming under the quiet big blue silence with little or no distractions, just water flowing all around me.
