Todays post is dedicated to my bestest half who celebrates her 60th birthday. today ... so todays music focusses on the year she was born and artists who were making waves at the time. This was a small sacrifice on my part as these tunes get automatically added to my Youtube Mix... and anyone who listens to any of the music I feature will know that this is different
Frank Sinatra - The Sunny Side of the Street
Off the album Come Swing With Me released in ... of course .... 1961
For the youngsters in the audience ... all one of you {friendly wave to } I would just like to include what for me is a rather powerful number sung by Frank, and which may not have been on their playlist.
Although this work became Frank Sinatra's signature song, his daughter Tina says the singer came to hate the song. "He didn't like it. That song stuck and he couldn't get it off his shoe. He always thought that song was self-serving and self-indulgent.

The absolutely amazing thing about this recording it was done in one afternoon... from first seeing the lyrics and arrangements to completion
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way"
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
Yes, it was my way.

Another very famous 'crooner' of the time period was Dean Martin ... {deep breath} ...so I sat through a few of his numbers trying to find something I believe is listenable. I was very surprised to find out that the following track was performed by him. I remember it very well from the charts in 1969. A pleasant tune ... I have no problem with it {grin}
Dean Martin - Gentle on my Mind
What I do love about the music from the 50's and 60's is the fact that the music and the vocals do not compete... but compliment each other, unlike modern music...or sort of from the Beatles Era onwards, where mmusic is continuous and the vocalist sings 'over' it. The 'chorus' is the music then a verse.. then the chorus (music)
A last track from another 60's artist ... the inimitable (NOT) Bobby Lewis which was on my ladies 'birth date' trivia list shared with our guests. Tossing and Turning was a hit for Bobby in....taaadaaahaaaa... you guessed it .... 1961
Bobby Lewis - Tossing and Turning
{peers into the ether ... searching for ...} "Hey Debs, you can bop to this in the kitchen... head bang...{thinks} "Errrr, maybe not head bang"
That's it .... I have had enough of this meander into the weird .... I love all genre's music but man, this in small doses only !!! I need to go find me a stiff drink...
As always , thank you for stopping by... much appreciated.
Namaste
