Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi Wabarkatuhu.
Dear Fellows, Today in this post I started the second episode of the history of World Cup football. Welcome to this post.
The main problems in organizing the first World Cup were the problems of intercontinental travel and war. Although some South American teams are interested in going to Europe for the 1934 and 1936 World Cups, only Brazil has been able to participate in these two competitions. Due to World War II, the World Cup was not held in 1942 and 1948. The first British team to participate in the 1950 World Cup. These British parties have been boycotting FIFA since 1920. One reason for this was the mentality of not playing with the countries which were at war with the then British government and the other reason was the protest against foreign domination in football. However, they responded to FIFA's invitation in 1948. The World Cup saw Uruguay, the 1930 World Cup winners, compete again, having boycotted the previous two World Cups. In 1950, Uruguay won the World Cup again.
From 1934 to 1966, 16 teams participated in the main stage. However, since Germany occupied Austria in 1936, 15 teams took part in the competition. As India, Scotland and Turkey withdrew their names in 1950, 13 teams participated in the World Cup. Most teams came from Europe and South America, with a few playing from North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. These teams could easily have lost to European and South American teams.
Until 1972, the only teams to cross the hurdle in the first round, except Europe and South America, were the United States, the semi-finals of the 1930 World Cup; Cuba, 1938 World Cup quarter-finals; North Korea, 1968 World Cup quarter-final; And Mexico, the quarter-finals of the 1970 World Cup. In the 1982 World Cup, the number of teams was increased to 24. ThenSince 1998, the number of teams has been increased to 32. This gives more teams from Africa, Asia and North America the opportunity to participate. Oceania is an exception because no team from here has had a chance at the World Cup. In recent years, teams from these regions have had relatively more success. The teams that have reached the knock-out stage of the World Cup in these areas are:
Mexico, quarter finals in 1986 and knockout stages in 1994, 1996, 2002 and 2006; Morocco, knockout stage in 1986; Cameroon, 1990 quarter-finalist; Costa Rica, knockout stage in 1990; Nigeria, knockout stages in 1994 and 1996; Saudi Arabia, knockout stage in 1994; United States, knockout in 1994 and quarter-finals in 2002; South Korea, fourth place in 2002; Senegal, quarter-finals in 2002; Japan, knockout stage in 2002; And Australia and Ghana, both knockout stages in 2006.
However, European and South American teams are still out of reach of other teams. Europe and South America were the eight teams to reach the quarter-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. 198 teams competed in the finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and a record 204 teams competed in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
