This rant is triggered by reading a post just now where the writer displays some computer programming code with no commentary about what language is involved. It reminds me of the many times that I see people writing about code and using the word “code” in a context where the reader should have some understanding of what is the pertinent language in order to understand properly and react appropriately.
In order to improve inclusiveness in our community, we programmers should make a point of telling people what is the language, and perhaps even adding some references to help those who might like to learn more about the syntax and other rules of that particular language.
It would be really nice if there is a place (URL) where we can go to find out who are the ready-to-be-helpful experts on language X. Stack Exchange and Quora are great resources for people with technical questions; but experts within our community might be especially helpful.
