Prospectors is a blockchain game about Gold Mining in the Wild West era and I’ve been playing it now since the day it launched back in 2018. The game itself has had a few ups and downs but it’s proven its got legs and the creators seem to be still innovating with semi-regular updates and new worlds. They’ve just announced their latest game-changer and so I thought I’d give everyone a heads up about the new world they are now planning with plenty of time for people to get involved if they want.

The new world is called the “Grand Land” and one of the big changes is the fact that on this new world the land won’t be rented to players. Permanent ownership of the land is going to be sold as NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens). This is clever in that it’s adapting to current blockchain trends and the expansion into NFTs opens up this important blockchain functionality to another ecosystem of gamers (and investors). It also means that if you build a production building on your “owned” plot you aren’t going to be bled out by having to keep paying rent during the inevitable economic downturns in-game so it’s likely to result in a more persistent game world over the longer term. This should mean that players can invest in the world with more confidence. It is quite possible that this new game world will become the main world for the game as the existing persistent worlds continue to be depleted and die off.
The NFT land sale is expected to happen mid-May with the worlds launch set for July so there is plenty of time for people to do some due diligence and get prepared. One other interesting fact is that this new world is going to be launched on WAX – which appears to be fast becoming a preferred blockchain for gaming as well as for trading NFTs. Splinterlands now has a link to WAX and the Atomic Hub NFT Marketplace seems to be going from strength to strength.
