Below are 6 of my Pro Tips every Steemian should know.
1) I don't know what to write about!
As if it was so hard to talk about something? Just begin with a concept and start writing! What people usually forget is this isn't a college essay. No one is grading you here! Just come up with something that excites you and start talking about it!
2) Can I write about "XYZ"?
The second most common question I get is "Is it okay to write about {FILL IN THE BLANK}?". If you have to ask, you missed the point! There is nothing off limits! If it is important to you then you should write about it! When you limit yourself to a topic or hold off on writing something because you felt it wasn't the right place, you clearly missed the point! Your audience will engage with you based on what you write about. It is your job to decide what that is, NOT the rest of the community!
3) Do I need to have a theme or consistent topic?
Yes and NO! I would advise you create a persona! WHO you are is far more important than what you write about! Think about it, you follow people, not just their ideas. If your favorite artist got into Steem/crypto you would be very interested in reading about their experiences with it! Just because they never were big on technology before does not mean you wouldn't want to read their view points and input on the topic!
4) How often should I write?
I would advise attempting to stay as active as possible on here. Consistency is what builds a good base following and gets people checking back on your content as you create more each day. I would attempt to create at least one post per day and no less than at least one post per week. If you go more than a week without creating any content here you are basically telling your followers that you are no longer active!
5) Why do I only get a few votes per post? How can I get more?
Starting out is never easy. This isn't a get rich quick scheme! Steem is a slow and steady wins the race platform. You have to put the work in. The NUMBER ONE way to grow your earnings is to engage with new people every day. If you just wait for others to find you and upvote your posts and never do that for others, what makes you think they aren't doing the same thing? The best thing you can do is everyday attempt to go out and find Steemians that you aren't following yet and engage with them. Up vote some of their posts/comments, post some replies and follow them. As you begin to engage and give follows, re-steems, and up votes to others they are more inclined to reciprocate the favor. You will see the number of followers that actually give your posts up votes greatly increase over just a few weeks time if you stick with the program!
6) What tags should I use?
The best way to find tags is to go to "Trending" or "Hot" and look at the tags others are already using. Remember on Steemit you can use 5 tags, so always use all 5. My advice is to use at least 4 tags that are popular and the last tag be something directly related to my post. For example this post I will use "protips" despite it not being one of the most popular tags. Never underestimate the power of tags! Creating an amazing post and putting it in the wrong category with the wrong tags can lead to it being buried and never found! Such a shame to write a great post only to have it ruined by choosing the wrong tags! Do your homework before you submit your post and be sure to find the best tags for it!
