Adie maa n laagun iye ni ko je ka mo
(Chickens sweat it's because their feathers we don't notice).
This is a yoruba proverb which really implies and tells us not to envy people because of what we see outside. It tells us that the feather of the chicken does not enable anyone see it sweat and it's only the chicken that knows that it's sweating.
The proverb helps us understand and realize that the outer appearance of a person, thing or situation is not always all that is there or the complete story of that person. Because someone drives a nice car, has a nice house or lives a lavish life doesn't show you all there is in their lifes. Most have struggles they can't tell you about and a lot of them have worked hard and passed through a lot to get where they which most times people don't see. They only see the success. A person can act or behave in such a manner that he hides his struggles and predicaments , we all put up faces most times that don't really tell what we are going true inside.
Proverbs are a very big part of the African culture. Proverbs are a quick way to convey warning or encouragement It is one of the things that make our language so rich, but lately tho it has been largely forgotten or not even used at all.
