If you're reading this, i'm assuming you have some sort of interest in hunting for the wild mushroom, Psilocybe Cubensis. Commonly known as Cubes. It is the most commonly found psychedelic mushroom, both on the commercial front (being sold from dealers), as well as in the wild.
This post is for anyone looking for help towards identifying this super abundant species!
Luckily for you, this specific magic mushroom is pretty easy to identify for beginners.
Pileus (Cap):
Very conical or bell shaped at a young age, becoming more convex with age, usually has a brown to yellowish center, possibly olive coloring with sun and aging. Will bruise blue/blueish green
Lamellae (Gills):
Adnate to adnexed (Whole/Seperated) Purplish Brown/Primarily brown
Stipe (Stem):
4-15 cm long, 0.4-1-5 cm thick, can be white or sometimes yellowish to yellow-brown, WILL bruise Blue/blue green (easiest way to identify ime) Sometimes has a black/purple "umbrella" attached where the cap broke away from the stem.
Season:
(Most Common)late summer through late autumn.
Habitat and Distribution:
Solitary or in groups on dung and manure. COWS people! This species is a dung loving species, also known as coprophilic. They love to colonize on the dung of large herbivores. Thriving in more humid areas. In the US, they are sometimes found growing wild in south. (FL, AL, GA, TX just to name a few states)
Finding these mushrooms on your own can be both a rewarding and spiritually gratifying experience. If you do choose to hunt for this awesome mushroom on your own time, be sure to make your adventure SAFE. Of course I do not condone the use of Psilocybe Mushrooms, this post is for educational purposes only. Happy Hunting Shroomers!
