Legitimacy is a concept that can create a relationship between the leader and the community he leads. In a state government, legitimacy is considered important to government leaders because these leaders will always strive to gain or retain that legitimacy.
Most people argue that the existence of a leader's legitimacy can trigger political stability and allow for social change. It is also believed to open up wider opportunities for the government to not only expand the welfare areas to be addressed, but also to improve the quality of welfare itself which is generally the main task of a government.
