About 100 thousand cases of schizoid pd are recorded yearly in Nigeria.
It is a psychological disorder most commonly discovered in men. Only one out of every ten or so cases is female.
Some symptoms of schizoid pd are:
Lack of close relationship with people.
Tendency to avoid social interaction or keep it to the barest minimum.
Indifferent to praise
Emotional detachment , etc.
Schizoid PD is commonly caused by having a parent or relative who also has the disorder, or being in an emotionally unresponsive environment.
Severe cases of schizoid PD can exhibit signs of homicidal tendencies and severe antisocial disorder. Though it can be managed through therapy and counselling, schizoid personality disorder has no known cure.
It has also been likened to a milder case of schizophrenia, where patients do not hallucinate or "see things". People with schizoid personality disorder can be mistaken for sociopaths, although it is merely as a result of their psychological problem. They also tend to be emotionally detached about very serious issues, hence, their lack of interest in personal relationships.
