When I was dancing on the steps to the oldest Spaniard church in Guatemala, I realized how unimportant our wars and fights are.
There was a day when Spaniards were fighting the Mayans, trying to conquer it all. They built churches and destroyed a lot of Mayans' temples.
Nowadays, I have visited both churches and temples. I didn't see the reason why those different buildings could not stand together without shedding so much blood.
The church was beautiful and inspiring. The temples were stunning. Two completely contrasting but on the same time fulfilling pieces of human brilliance now makes Guatemala such a splendid country.
So why couldn't Spaniards come and build their church, while Mayans were praying to their Gods in the temples? Human instinct maybe, I don't know...
All I know is that the wars and fights are so irrelevant for the future. The people will only see what's beautiful left behind and they will simply condemn all the shed blood. However, they will keep fighting those new, "different" wars.
We are so fast to condemn when we know all the facts. However, we are yet to learn to accept the fact that a church and a temple can stand together as one.
I was dancing on those steps, looking at this old and deserted church. So many people had to die in order to build it. Was it worth it? I think not.
The majority of people think differently, though. If they were with me, there would have bene no need to fight anymore.
We could dance on the steps covered with joy, but not blood.
Everything dies one day, but I would like to die in peace with all the wars and fights on hold... forever.
