Gustav Holsts (1874-1934) "The Planets" (1914-1916)

Um dos programas mais legais da radio Cultura Fm de São Paulo, "Interprete", trouxe em 2019 o astrólogo Oscar Quiroga, para comentar a obra "Os Planetas", em sete movimentos de Gustav Holsts, e fazer uma leitura astrológica. Os sete movimentos são:

I. Marte, o portador da guerra
II. Vênus, o portador da paz
III. Mercúrio, o mensageiro alado
IV. Júpiter, portador da alegria
V. Saturno, o portador da velhice
VI. Urano, o mágico
VII. Netuno, o místico

Curioso é que Holst não coloca em sua suite orquestral a representação musical da nossa querida Terra, e Plutão, que até a década de 1910 não era caracterizado como planeta. A estreia foi realizada na cidade de Londres, no Queen's Hall, em 29 de Setembro de 1918. A obra combina mitologia romana e astrologia, expressando o caráter particular de cada astro, através de movimentos com andamentos, melodia e instrumentação contrastantes.

In 2019, one of the most beautiful programs of the Radio Cultura Fm de São Paulo, "Interprete", brought the astrologer Oscar Quiroga, to comment on the work "The Planets" (In Portugues), in seven movements of Gustav Holsts, and to do an astrological reading. The seven movements are:

I. Mars, the bearer of war
II. Venus, the bearer of peace
III. Mercury, the winged messenger
IV. Jupiter, bearer of joy
V. Saturn, the bearer of old age
VI. Uranus the Magician
VII. Neptune the mystic

Curious is that Holst does not put into his orchestral suite the musical representation of our beloved Earth, and Pluto, who until the 1910s was not characterized as a planet. The premiere was held in London at Queen's Hall on September 29, 1918. The work combines Roman mythology and astrology, expressing the particular character of each star through movements with contrasting rhythm, melody and instrumentation.
