It's that time again... Time for Question of The Week! This week: Parties, small and intimate or the bigger, the better.
(Sacrifice The Truth playing the annual Roast party)
Being a musician, I've played many parties through the years. Some we're tiny backyard birthday parties and others were huge raves! So which one in my opinion is the best?
(My husband and I at one of our Halloween parties)
Well... There's usually so much going on at a bigger party. Lots of groups to ping pong back and forth from and sometimes a lot of activities. But if I'm the one hosting the huge parties, I'm always anxious and nervous. I've got to make sure the beer doesn't run out or that mess was cleaned or whoever goes on next is ready... Scheduling it all and getting it all done can be a chore.
I usually won't start settling down until people start to either leave or sleep, especially if I don't know everyone there. But the energy and the fun you can have with so many people is amazing! Some of the most epic weekends I can (some what) remember had a huge party at it's core. Plus I've met some awesome new people at bigger parties as well!
On the other hand, smaller parties are more intimate. Just a few friends gathered around a campfire with some beers and whisky!
(Small St. Paddy's day get together last year)
These parties for me are more calming and relaxing. There usually isn't a million things for me to get done and I'm more than likely to know everyone there... There's usually acoustic jams going on if there's anyone playing at all. And of course the mess isn't quite so overwhelming the next day. These are usually on the fly parties. Didn't really have a plan but it happened. Although it's less stressful on me because of the anxiety, there just isn't that energy and huge amount of fun there in the smaller parties...
BUT just because I prefer a good huge party doesn't mean I want one all the time. We usually host anywhere from 3-4 large parties a year. Halloween is a big one for us that happens almost every year. Along with some birthdays and so on.
In fact, on August 5th my husband () and I are hosting a home town show at our house to showcase the great talent that has grown from our small town. Everyone in our band Sacrifice The Truth is from here,
is from here, and all our friends in the band The Reacharounds are from here too. Not to mention a few who won't be able to play and some who aren't from here but associated with our friends! I'm super excited!
All in all I love bigger parties every so often to help you remember that life is worth celebrating!
