If you have watched the Groundhog Day then you probably can relate the current times that we are in with the movie. It's a tale of one man who has to re-live the same day over and over until he can eventually become the man he's supposed to be. Ideally, the goal is for him to become more honest, selfless, a team player, friendly and kind to others.
With the current pandemic, it almost feels like nature is trying to remind us to be the best versions of ourselves, to remember to be kind to others, to be selfless by doing whatever we need to, to stop the spread of Corona virus. By often thinking of what consequences our actions may birth , and above all else, to work as a global team to help stop its spread. Unfortunately, this may prove a little hard, but with more effort by each one of us, I truly believe we can put a stop to it.
That said, I would like to share with you guys 10 things we are doing in my house to cut out routine and repetition, which can essentially lead to mini depression, boredom or risky behavior.
1. Gardening
Although we prepared our mini-garden for summer way before the quarantine, I feel this is something that those of you that have space for can do. Make it a mini-family project and pick out the vegetables/fruits you all like and plant together.
We personally planted tomatoes, strawberries, green-beans,spinach, kale, coriander, rosemary, watermelon and maybe a couple more that I have forgotten, but you get the drift.
Talking of which, I think I should do a mini garden update tomorrow, show you guys the progress of our mini project. It's looking great!
2. Food Try Outs/ Experiments/ Baking
This ought to be a very exciting experience for all the foodies like myself out there. It is always a pleasure trying different food combos, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but you will never know if you don't try. For those that enjoy baking, this is the best time to go crazy with your skills and experiment on different pastry recipes. Here's a few we have done this past week, yummy right?
And if you have kids, even best to let them join in. You maybe pleasantly surprised they have hidden talents you knew nothing of.
3. Learn an Instrument eg.Piano,Ukulele etc
I am not big on this if I'm being honest. I never have been good with crafts, but for those that enjoy this type of thing, then I say maximize on the time you have during this lock-downs.
4. Try Out New Games(Besides Computer Games) eg. Board Games
I can't tell you how many kid games I have learnt in this period. Who knew there were so many board games out there.
It's a blast every-time. I had to specify on the computer games because I know most of you that is all you know. Go out there and do something different, maybe learn your kids games for once :D
We are currently enjoying this electric car racing game, I am terribly losing, but fun nonetheless.
5. Read Books
Poof! Terribly failing at this, despite having a pile of books that I would like to dive into. I am mostly distracted by what's happening on the blockchain, keeping up with twitter content regarding #hive, keeping up with the Corona pandemic, not to mention creating content which is what takes up most of my time. But if you haven't much commitment, this is definitely something you should occupy yourself with. Do you have dusty books that you have been meaning to get started on somewhere? Time to pull them out!
My current read even though I am just at page 11👌🏾👉
6. Competitive Exercise as a Family eg.Trampoline, running, etc
I think I should add outdoor competitive games in there as well. It is something we are trying to do on sunny days. It's not only great exercise, but also fun and gets you super exhausted at the end of the day, which is great because you sleep better at night.
7. Journaling/ Writing a Book
Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but if you enjoy to write, then this is a great way to keep the fire burning. And for those that have been dreaming of getting started on writing a book, I don't think you'll ever get a better time than now. GET STARTED!!
8. Online Hangouts with Friends
The whole point of quarantine is social distancing. Just because you can't have physical contact with your friends, family lovers etc, doesn't mean you can't hang out with them. We have recently started this digital hangout with friends where we drink wine and chat for a couple of hours at least. Very exotic. I think I might retain this form of social hangout even after quarantine lol.
Wine sesh with friends😂
9. Learning new Skills eg Knitting, Sewing, Making Candles
We had a try at making candles. They didn't come out as great as we had hoped, but perhaps you can do a better job. You could also think of other fun, creative things to do besides making candles like knitting, making instruments with materials you have at your disposal, or making good use of your trash by recycling it into something useful.
I tried sewing, it's still a work in progress.
10. Create More, Dope Content/ Documenting Your Quarantine Journey..
Last but not least, my favorite thing to do right now, creating content on hive! If you have wanted to try out different Dapps in the past then this is the best time. This is particularly great for those that always wanted to try out vlogging. Why not document your quarantine journey? There's always content to make, you just have to think a little harder, and out of the box.
What else would you add onto this list of things to do in quarantine? What is it that you are keeping yourself occupied with? Let's share, they say sharing is caring. Stay Safe 💕
LET'S GO! HIVE ON.
