Since I love writing down New Year's resolutions and I would make a post about this topic anyway, I have decided to take part in
's Monday Missions and share what I've been up to when it comes to 2021. One big lesson I've learned from the previous year (it feels good to say that) is that nothing is life is predictable or guaranteed. Majority of 2020. I was living 'day to day', unable to make any plans in advance like many other people around the world.
I really do love setting up goals/resolutions/bucket lists and other fun stuff like that even though I am not that great at keeping up with them which is something I need to work on. I did some brainstorming on how to approach all this stuff in 2021. and keep in mind uncertainty this year might bring as things won't magically get fixed overnight... This is what I came up with:
- Since I can't really affect global issues we are dealing with at the moment, I have decided to keep my focus on things I can control so a lot of my resolutions are related to personal growth, hobbies, things I can work on from home...
- I am focusing on smaller sections of time instead of the entire year at once, working on things that are in near future seems more realistic for me, it keeps me from overthinking and 'what if' thoughts
- Anything that is more likely to not happen in this year ended up on my life bucket list - that way I still have these goals alive without pressure to fit everything into one year
- Just have fun with it - I'm not taking all this too seriously and I won't beat myself up if things don't go as planned; however, I really do want to put in effort and do what I can to make this year as great as possible
Goals vs. Resolutions vs. Bucket lists
In my head, there is a difference between all these and I'll try to explain it the best I can together with some examples.
What are your plans for 2021? Any goals/resolutions you would like to share? If so leave them in the comments or participate in
's Monday Missions by making your own post and sharing all about it. :) For more details, check out THIS post. Thank you for reading and let's do our best to make 2021. a little bit more special, successful and happier.

Goals:
For me goals are the biggest things one wants to accomplish and they usually take more time and effort. They are also measurable so once that goal is done - it's done and we can cross it off. I would also say that in a span of one year, there should be 1-3 of these goals, overdoing them might not bring good results and our time/focus can be all over the place.
Resolutions:
I see resolutions as something that is more related to lifestyle and habits so it might be a change we want to bring in and continue having in our lives for a long period of time such as meditation, drinking enough water, physical activity... Even though we can use habits trackers to track and 'measure' these things, there is no end goal where we can say we have accomplished it and it's done.
Bucket lists:
Here I put all the fun stuff it would be nice to do, things I would like to happen but if they don't, it's not a big deal. This can include hobbies, any ideas or things we want to try out, maybe even something that we might consider too 'crazy' to put in other two categories so they can end up here...
My 2021.
When it comes to my goals I have three but they all follow up each other so I can't really skip and have to do them in order. This also gives me more structure as I have to focus on one goal at the time. It's also important to give yourself some time frame for each goal or even better a very specific due date.
For my resolutions and bucket lists, I kind of combined them into one list titled 2021. bucket list and here are some of them:
- Complete Goodreads reading challenge (30 books) - originally I was planning to put 20 or 21 but last year I competed my challenge of reading 20 books so I thought why not spice things up a little bit and aim for a higher number.
- Reach 70 reputation on Hive - this is one of those 'fun but it's okay if it doesn't happen' things I was talking about. I've been around here for almost 4 years but I never really had any goals or direction on where I want my blog to go so little things like this are nice to work towards until I figure out more 'serious' goals for my Hive presence.
- Post on Hive at least once a week - this one ties up with the previous thing; I have been known for disappearing from Hive for weeks, even months so I came up with something to fix that while still being realistic and manageable
- Get a BTS and Monsta X album - in this post I wrote about Stray Kids album I won in a giveaway. It is my first K-pop album and I really want to get at least one from two of my favorite groups BTS and Monsta X. Luckily, I can order them here in Serbia but some of them are not that cheap so I might have to pay attention to sales and discounts
- Medical checkups - I suck at these and really need to catch up on all the important medical check ups this year. I might wait until spring and then start making appointments since for all of these I have to go to the city. The only thing I can do here where I live is get my blood test so I might do that first
- Learn how to use sewing machine - we have two around, one of them is super old Singer machine and the other one is Bagat, a little bit more 'modern' and it also works better so I might go with that one. I love tailoring clothes from my mom's closet and she always has to do that for me so I would really love to be able to do it myself and maybe also buy some materials to make clothes from scratch.
- Practice Korean/60 days Duolingo streak - Duolingo part is very specific and I think I'll reduce my languages on that app from four to only one or two. Even though I also practice Korean on Duolingo, there are other sources I have found to be better for this language. I am still not sure if I want to set a more specific goal for Korean or I'll just leave it as it is and see how much I'll be able to learn.
- Shop second hand as much as possible and support small, local businesses - in 2020. I have managed to find some real gems at the second hand shops so I want to continue to buy there as much as possible. I don't buy that much clothes anymore, it's mostly when I feel like I really need something but sometimes it's nice to bring in something new for a very small price. I also want to try and get anything else I need from a small business, sometimes this can be a little bit more expensive but after a hard year we had, shopping locally and help these small businesses is something I would like to do.
- Try Schroth method for scoliosis - this is something I found out about couple years ago and after talking to someone who did it recently and has all the spine problems I have, I really want to try it out. It takes 10 treatments (exercises) and some money, then you have to continue doing exercises you've learned at home. You also get before and after scans, from what I've seen it seems to make a big change and improvement.
There's a lot more I ended up writing down in my journal but since I think I have shared enough, let's stop here. :) Another important thing I want to mention, especially for all the 'visual people' out there is to make sure you get some kind of vision board that aligns with your goals/resolutions/bucket list. Even if you're not into these things, I would suggest giving vision board a try. It can be physical or digital (or both), whatever you prefer. Just out images that are connected to your goals and that make you feel good when you look at them. If anything you see there makes you doubt yourself, makes you feel anxious or not worthy of that goal, remove it. Vision boards are suppose to fully support your goals and be a daily reminder of your direction in life.
Here is an example of a vision board I made for this post. It would be a perfect desktop background as I would be looking at this every day, multiple times a day and it would remind me of the life I want to build in this year.
