As I was leaving the Food Coalition today, there was a man, who happened to be black, staring into the kitchen from the outside. I don't recognize this person. He looks like he doesn't belong here at this time - I don't recognize him to be part of the Salvation Army's program for the youth nor have I seen him at any other time. We get these types of people from time to time.
Earlier today, there was this white dude who decides that he had the right to take donuts from the boxes of food out front without asking anyone. He posted up, eating his sweets, and using the tables. I and another volunteer go out to question him. He stays quiet and leaves because he knows he isn't supposed to be there. An easily handled situation.
Back to the first man. I begin to question him with, "Hello. May I help you;" - no reply, just stares into the kitchen through the window - "Is there something I can help you with;" - no reply, just stares into the kitchen through the window - "Are you part of the program here?" He turns toward me and starts to get irate. Almost yelling, he says, "Who the fuck are you!" … and more things of this nature. In a very calm voice, I told him I'm only attempting to figure out if he belongs here at this time.
There is this extremely creepy Mexican kid who was in the program and who would do something similar, staring into the kitchen through the window from the outside with a blank expression. When questioned, he reacted the same way as the black kid did (just as written above) with aggression and "like, who the fuck are you!" comments and phrases. This Mexican kid is not allowed back onto the property because he got irate with the head boss lady and a few others. He is a creepy dude in general!
Back to the first man. I went to the front lobby. Lisa, a black woman who works the front desk for the Salvation Army, buzzes me in the front door. I tell her I think security needs to be called. I say, "there is a black man doing xyz (Same as above)." I could see on her face and by the way she spoke to me during and after that as soon as I said BLACK man, her thought was, "Oh, here we go. Another WHITE boy afraid of black people!"
The man is now standing outside and presses his face up against the window, looking through. I point to him and say, "that is the one." She tells me he comes at night. Great! That is what I wanted to know. He belongs here; just not at this particular time. - Even though it is a food kitchen and there are many hungry people, we can only serve at a specific time of the day, which is at dinner time. On rare occasions, the homeless that come through before opening food hours will be given something to tie them over until the nightly meal is ready to be served. Other than that, it is a strict "No" because of the rules the Food Coalition MUSt follow in order to stay on the property. I'll be the first to tell you that some rules fucking suck but they must be followed for the time being. - I say to Lisa, "This person is creeping me out by the way he is acting." She questions what I am witnessing; basically, it comes across, to me, that she thinks what I am doing is part of WHITE man's problem with ALL BLACK people. The man moves to the intercom and pushes the call button. She picks up the phone. "Is that white boy saying stuff about me? He'd better not. I stay here at the youth center." By the tone of his voice, he is clearly (in my white eyes) looking for a fight.
I've been hit in the face by a couple of irate black people in the past simply due to the fact that I have a certain skin tone. So, yeah. This young man's actions were, as far as I could see, threatening. I don't care what color you are. If you start to get irate when a person who doesn't know who you are, who is only seeing you for the first time and attempting to figure out who you are, because you don't look like you belong on the property, askes some questions calmly and you come back with evil speech, you are threatening to me. It has nothing to do with the pigmentation of your skin's color.
While this commotion is taking place, she tells me that I need to leave the lobby. - What went through my head? "You're fucking kidding me? You want me to go out there with a man who is clearly looking to fight someone; I'm a good target because I spoke to this person. What? You don't see the way he is acting? Don't you hear him? All this commotion just from attempting to figure out if he belongs on the property or not? Umm..." - I tell her that I'm not going out that way. She tells me I can go out the back. I leave through the back.
Black people (or any other race/color). Not ALL white (black, brown, yellow, red, blue, pink, and any color I missed!) people are afraid of black (white, brown, yellow, red, blue, pink, and any color I missed!) people simply because of the color of their skin's pigmentation. That shit is so incredibly stupid and ignorant to me that I often laugh, while simultaneously completely dumbfounded by the sheer stupidity and absurdity of the fool's logical fallacy. Where do you people come up with this shit!!!???
Not ALL white (black, brown, yellow, red, blue, pink, and any color I missed!) are out to get other "races" simply because of the color of that "races" skin pigmentation.
p.s. Yes! I can speak of the injustices against black people. Slavery hasn't gone away! White people have done some very fucked up things and still, they continue to do them while proclaiming their innocence. I personally still do things other races don't appreciate (thanks Trump's Amerika for the evil indoctrination program you downloaded into my subconscious. Fuckers!!!) It doesn't mean that ALL of "us" are white devils and see other races as inferior to "us."
