Racism is not the ONLY source of problems.
I hold no brief for the justice system as it works in our time, and I am no longer sympathetic with police. But people are talking about justice as if it is simply a matter of established fact that racism is responsible for most of the horrible things that blacks in the USA experience. Here are some facts, from the FBI:
In 2018 (the latest year for which I can find the numbers sifted), 2,925 black Americans were murdered.
Of those 2,925:
2,600 were murdered by another black person
234 were murdered by a white person
17 were murdered by a person neither white nor black
74 were murdered by persons unknown
Since whites far outnumber blacks in the USA, those are astonishing numbers. Supposing at the most conservative estimate that whites outnumber blacks by 4 to 1, and thus that random chance would predict that white perpetrators of black murders would outnumber black perpetrators by 4 to 1, if you put the rates together, the result is:
If you are a black person in the USA, you are more than 40 times as likely to be murdered by a given other black person than by a given white person.
We have to talk about facts here. Now, I am NOT saying that racism has not played its evil part, but, given the collapse of the black family -- a collapse that has been in the works for 60 years, and that has spread to other groups in the USA, with other bad consequences -- what are we to expect?
And nobody wants to revisit the causes of that collapse. It cannot SIMPLY be racism, since in 1900, when racism was vicious in every part of the country, out-of-wedlock births in the black community were less than 10 percent. Not the 70 to 80 percent that is now the case.
