Some time back I participated in a contest organized by and recently, they announced the winners. I am honored and humbled to be in the 3rd spot and received a 700SP delegation from them!
Thanks for the delegation! I received this delegation and I thought I should make good use of it and decided to test the #raiseto50 initiative.
Motivation for the initiative
There are many problems on Steem and one of those that I see require fixing is the resource credits (RC) restrictions on newcomers. A simple to understand explanation of RC can be found here. While I can understand why RC was implemented, I feel the pain for a newcomer under such restrictions.
If a newcomer bought an account through Steem Ninja, he/she gets a 15 SP delegation from them. Which is cool, but with 15 SP, you can only make about 18 comments over 5 days. That means on the average, the new Steemian can only make less than 4 comments per day and I thought that is insufficient.
On any free platform out there, there is no such restriction. So when a new person joins and encounters such limitation, he/she might be instantly turned off. We then fail to retain a user. Every of such Steemian has the potential to be an active user posting quality posts. Hence, it is a loss to us for every of such occurrence.
I think 50 SP will be a nice amount of SP to start with. It will give a user around 12 comments per day, which I think is enough as I personally do not even make so many comments per day. With delegating 700 SP to me, this idea came to mind. Why not I delegate and top up some newcomers' SP to 50?
What is "Raise to 50" Initiative?
When I was still in junior college/secondary school, I remembered we used to have this concept of a "guardian angel". Where a senior will be the "guardian angel" for a freshman. The senior helps to induct the new joiner and provide information and resources to make him/her feel welcome. I will like the "Raise to 50" initiative to be somewhat like this.
After identifying a new Steemian who you like to help, you delegate sufficient SP to bring his/her SP to 50. You then "nurture" him/her to get his/her own 50 SP, after which you can remove your delegation. Through this, I believe you will build a lasting relationship with the new Steemian and he/she will likely be more committed on this platform.
Of course, you can set some ground rules (e.g. you will remove delegation if you find that he/she is inactive or he/she isn't posting quality posts) so that you only help those that you really want to help. If you have some spare SP, why not consider taking up this initiative?
Calling for new Steemians
If you are a new Steemian or if you know a new Steemian who needs help, do leave a comment here. I plan to support up to 10 Steemians through this initiative. My rules are simple, the Steemian must be posting relatively good posts and relatively active (I consider not posting for 2 weeks to be inactive). Of course the Steemian must have less than 50 SP.
Thanks for reading and do leave your comment if you want this small delegation. Or you can tag the Steemian whom you think need this delegation :)
